I have seen Discover slow at times doing updates. I do not think it is Discover but perhaps a slow server. I use MX's apt notifier for general updates. The advantage is you can see more progress information than Discover. However it cannot make up for a slow server. You can install it from the stable repo as apt-notifier. I'm having the same issue her. The Shutdown/Reboot Buttons in the login screen (SDDM?) are grayed out. Otherwise, as already mentioned with both betas: under systemd, this hdd-installed system still complains about non-existent /etc/machine-id (which does not seem to cause any problem, though)

I've installed the "sddm-modified-init" package.
Those buttons on login screen are missing (or are greyed out) when more than one user is logged in. I've installed the "sddm-modified-init" package.

Kernel 5.4 is in repo but for mx 19.1. When update to 19.4, this kernel gone. My old laptop work very well witch kernel 4.19, and 5.4. We don't do updates to Kernel 5.4 though, 4.19 and 5.10 will get updates.
