Testing software to be installed.
MXPI megasync:
Code: Select all
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
megasync : Depends: libssl1.1 (>= 1.1.1) but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
Downloaded the highest, 11, from their site, same thing, so 11 doesn't work on Bookworm.
Then downloaded the one in testing
https://mega.nz/linux/repo/Debian_testi ... _amd64.deb
That installs without issues and works (haven't tested yet, but it installing without probs is better than it not installing

) so the entry in MXPI needs adjusting.
Lets watch this one in the week or so after debian 12 becomes stable instead of testing.

Trying to eject a USB within Thunar on AAO (Live) gives me an error msg that root access is necessary (not on MX-21.3). Haven't had time to test on HP.

With limited time, a brief test and report. Running live, all seemed to work as expected. Although I needed AHS for MX-21 the vanilla version is fine in MX-23.
Installing, I missed the grub setting for the first time ever. I think it was because grub setting used to be at the end and now it's near the beginning. I was careless, so not a criticism. I never install grub on alpha/beta versions and rarely on RCs. I then messed up changing grub but MX Boot Repair on MX-21 and reinstall of MX-23 solved that.
No problems with the main applications I use, although haven't tried KMyMoney yet. I used MX User Installed to list my apps on MX-21, reduced it on MX-23 and tried 4 items - Asunder, KMyMoney, Master PDF Editor v4 and Vivaldi. Master PDF Editor 4 & Vivaldi were reported not available, although both installed via MX Package manager without problem.
Overall, looks very good to me. QSI:

Not seeing that here.

Going to need more information on the setup. I cannot duplicate this one on an updated full install. There are messages about needing to finish writing information, but if a user has mounted a usb, then that same user should be able to unmount it.

Corrected my snapshot issue. Although I updated grub on MX23, I didn't update grub on fluxbox which is where the boot loader is located. Now snapshot reports the amdgpu parameter as does my QSI.
(I don't normally dual boot so I learned something new)

/etc/smartd.conf same, which I need to put a device scan adjustment line into to scan once every five hours rather than the default five minutes.
Just dragging up an older comment from me here. I have checked in the syslog and it puts an output in there every half hour. Better than the five minutes that it was, but still, when you have syslog displaying in conky and four drives... that is a big output that isn't needed that often:
Code: Select all
2023-04-13T10:41:36.496309+02:00 eadwinemx23a2 smartd[2946]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 75 to 72
2023-04-13T10:41:36.500838+02:00 eadwinemx23a2 smartd[2946]: Device: /dev/sdb [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 75 to 72
2023-04-13T10:41:36.502590+02:00 eadwinemx23a2 smartd[2946]: Device: /dev/sdc [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 73 to 71
2023-04-13T10:41:36.506946+02:00 eadwinemx23a2 smartd[2946]: Device: /dev/sdd [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 74 to 72
I used to change the line in /etc/smartd.conf
Code: Select all
DEVICESCAN -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner
to
Code: Select all
DEVICESCAN -i 18000 -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner
so it would only scan every five hours.
Is there an alternative location to put that in, since /etc/smartd.conf doesn't exist anymore?
Unbelievable.. the thing needs to get generated first, and apparently it is now finally present.
*makes additional note about that in her notes*
Yay me.

NEXT!

How can I get the password field to populate the asterisks when authenticating? I loaded XFCE-21.3 live ISO and I can see them there.

they should have askteriks the only one I know of that has issues is the network-manager wifi password prompt and then only with certain themes, the mx-comfort-dark theme included.

I can't remember if I switched to a dark theme prior to setting up my WiFi but the password showed as long as I checked the box. This happens when opening MXPI.
