The monitors are working. Thanks.

Another issue is that after my analog audio output is buzzing when not playing.
After commenting out the line
"load-module module-suspend-on-idle"
in /etc/pulse/default.pa and /etc/pulse/system.pa, the problem is solved.

As noted here [ viewtopic.php?f=94&t=66622 ] I haven't figured out how to get Kaffeine to use a USB dongle for TV reception/recording on MX21beta/rc1.
The device is listed by System Profiler, so the system's aware of the device, which uses ATSC_1.0; I can't predict how much longer broadcasters here will use legacy tech.
On the upside, VLC doesn't go bananas and crash like it does in my current MX19 install.

These comments are for RC1 installs on Virtualbox-6.1.22-dfsg-1 MX19 x64 host only:

1) both 386 & x64 installs eject the ISO at the end so no more accidental restarting from the ISO used to install from. - Nice!

2) I use kgpg to manage my key for signing packages and the kgpg icon (padlock) no longer shows up in the notification area. This is for both 386 & x64 installs.
edit: I see the same issue for an install on my older laptop. It could just be a bug in kgpg on bullseye.

3) Sharing files from host to VM and back has been fixed in x64 ( zero issues so far) but after copying files between the host and 386 VM, the files are unusable. md5 checksums don't match after a copy either from host to VM or VM to host. If I copy a text file from host to VM or VM to host, after execution, the copied file is no good. The same happens for compressed files.

Exactly, you got it
Was that part of what you don't like, that unfocused windows need some sort of edging around the title bar area?
I often have a lot of windows open, so of course many overlap, especially the title bars, often there is an area of black screen where 3-5 title bars overlap, creating a large undifferentiated black area on the screen.

To grab a window to work on it, make it active, it is hard for the user (at least me) to know where one window begins and ends, so which was that thunar window with the search...

Some line or edge must be on ALL windows no matter which application it spawns from.

Then the user easily sees which title bar goes with each window. It may be a subtle point, but it improves ease of use.

out of curiosity, did you install the guest additions on the 32 bit VM?

No. I executed Device->Insert Guest Additions and executed the .run file that shows up there. I do the same for the 64 bit VM.

Let’s see what we can do.

The theme is on GitHub for those willing and able to take time to see if they can do it.

Upon finishing today's updates, I see this error (new to me) at the end of the terminal screen output:

Code: Select all

install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/gtkdialog.info.gz'
The file does exist:

Code: Select all

$ ls -l /usr/share/info/gtk*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6170 Feb 6 2020 /usr/share/info/gtkdialog.info.gz
How can "Your message contains too few characters" What is that about at the top of this window?

ADDED: Maybe it's significant that I'm running the LXDE desktop remotely logged in via X2GO. On the other hand, that's been my norm on multiple machines ever since MX-19 came out.

I got all the synaptic upgrades to the RC1 yesterday including the new kernel. 5.10-0-8 to the -9.
I accepted all upgrades. I rebooted, but it remained on the old kernel.
So, I went back to the MX 19.4 install and update-grub as root.
Then when going back to rc1, the new kernel is loaded.

I guess this is the expected behavior, right?

One other minor thing.
When I suspend to RAM, when I wake, if firefox was the active window, it is all pixelated. Not a big problem, when you touch it with the cursor, it redraws correctly.
This only seems to affect firefox, so maybe it is a firefox problem (though minor).
If firefox is not the active window, it seems OK.

As for those theme things with the title bars, a nice to have, making the comfort theme look better, but if there is no fix, it is easy to select another theme like greybird that has the white title bar edge, delineating the window edges.
