Here in the States we seriously need some good distraction, so I thought we might want to put together a thread of fun music. This boogie-woogie duo blows my mind:

István, a király (Stephen, the king) from 1983. It's the story of the first king of Hungary in the year 1000. I used to have the two CD album that I bought entirely on spec at a small music store in Seattle many years ago. I had no idea what it was about, I just saw that it was a Magyar rock opera (or "rokopera" as the cover spelled it) and was on the Hungaroton label. Who wouldn't jump at the chance to own it just for the weirdness's sake? It's fine music, containing a mixture of classical, folk, metal and even some Gregorian chant or plainsong. Besides the album it was made into a movie plus there have been several videos of public performances. I still find myself occasionally humming some of the tunes from it. You may be able to find it on YouTube, whether the album or one of the performances.

Glen, the developer behind AVLinux and one of our MX Forum members, has his own recording studio called Bandshed Records, where he records the works of his own band, Rated Blue. I really like the music from Rated Blue, but another group I've found on his label is a bunch of old guys (like me) who call themselves "The Incontinentals", who sing a couple of tunes I used to love in the 70's. They are well worth a listen:

I just saw this post looking for something else, very kind of you to mention that.. The Incontinentals are indeed a great bunch of guys and one of the best live vocal bands I know of in the area. Actually their keyboard player and I are about halfway through an album that will be completely produced with AVL-MXE... it's been hard to get together in the studio with Covid-19 but I'm hoping we'll have a new release for the Spring. So many much greater artists in this long thread but sure nice to get a mention...*blushes

Hi,

I've started some side work on Video upscaling and restoration (unfortunately Windows is a necessity) and I've started with some of my favourite music videos of all time to experiment with and learn the ropes, here's my first restoration experiment and a great tune by 'The Peddlers': https://youtu.be/uQ588sETYoM?list=RDuQ588sETYoM

This is an amazing performance. I first saw it over 10 years ago but it was under another name. It was called, 'Best Guitar Solo Ever'. Yes, you're right, anyone who's not a Prince fan would be surprised by this.

The other lead guitarist is Marc Mann.

And here.

My ears can't even keep up with Roy's singing or Trevor's drumming. That's some high energy right there. Watching the kids try to dance to it is funny - the human body isn't made to move to that rhythm.

Check out Roy playing the organ with his forearm at the 1:08 mark. And Trevor beating the drums behind his back at 1:34.

Hi,

A band I've been following for about a year, they have a new album out called "I Told You So" on Spotify etc. Kind of a throwback to the Hammond organ instrumentals of the 60's but these guys are super funky! I put these guys on in my headphones and go into a dance trance and when I wake up all my work is done and I have a big goofy grin on my face!

Here are a couple.

The first one is from an international piano competition where the contestants were given a piece of music composed specifically for the event. I love how much feeling the pianist puts into it:

For the other one, I find it soothing and inspirational at the same time. It's by Tony Chen:

Hey Jerry3904 I want to thank you for posting this one. I know it was a while back, but I just found it.

I grew up in a house with 4 piano's and 3 piano players (My grandmother was the fourth, and I never heard her play ), and boogie-woogie "battles" were a common thing with two or even three playing all at the same time. That video brought back some great memories! Thank you!

I heard a different version of "A White Sport Coat" some time ago that I thought was better than the others.
When searching for it recently, I stumbled upon a version of "I Hear You Knockin'" that I hadn't head before that I think some of you may like.

Hello @operadude,

relatively simple, click the logo "insert URL", then insert the link from YT or any other link like this:

Code: Select all

Name Interpret - Title
I hope it is explained understandably.

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure I fully understand: I know how to use the "insert url" button. I'm just not sure how to get the text I want, as you say:
I'm not sure about how to get the "Name Interpret - Title" part.
Do I just type that in?

Is there an option when clicking the "insert url" button to get the fancy "Name Interpret -Title" part?

I guess I'll play around with it. If you could guide me on this, I would be grateful
I'll Try Now...
Allison Krauss & Union Station

'Well....I..I..I'll Be!!!...', to quote Gomer Pyle (old US TV show).

So my only question is: is there a way I can modify the "insert url" button above to give me this fancier option? As it is, when I press the button, all I get is "" ""

Looks like I could simply add an equals sign ("=") after the first "url", but inside the brackets, add my link, and then after the first set of brackets, enter the text I want.

Is that what you do?

Thanks again for your help!

@operadude

that's exactly how I do it. It worked perfectly for Allison Kraus & Union Station.

If you hold the cursor over the "insert url" button for a while, a hint text also shows you this function. The button only offers both functions together.

@wahnsinn
Sorry it took so long to get back to you!

So, I was hoping there was a button selection for the text option of the link button. Guess not.

It looks like the way to do this is by adding an equals ("=") sign and add the url link I want, all of that before the first end bracket ("]"), then after the first right bracket insert the text I want, which is before last bracketed "url", that has the forward slash.

I will try now:
Allison Krauss
Checking with "Preview" button....OK, got it!
Thanks again for your help!!!

Hi,

A recent and rare show by my band 'Rated Blue' at Red Barn Brewery, it's certainly not up to me to say if it belongs in the 'amazing' music thread but @richb has encouraged me to post home brew here before. Anyway for me it's a great document of spending quality time with my son (the drummer). The show was all shot on my smartphone and I used Ardour in AVL-MXE to enhance the phone sound and I edited the Video clips with my all time fave Video Editor Cinelerra-GG.

Glad I could point the way.. and yes.. The Nortons - Married to the Blues is one of my very favorites!!

Having grown up in a house of musicians (4 piano players and all types of music ), blues was one that was ALWAYS around and being played, (Boogie as well), and I heard 'the best' of the lot - Rory Gallagher, BB, Muddy Waters, "Lead Belly", and SO many others... And that was just a small taste of it. And there are SO many talented musicians carrying it on - truly wonderful!

I have been getting back into Jeff Beck and Rory Gallagher, and his Blues work - Brush with the blues being one of the best I have ever heard as well.

OK, CharlesV - if I'm ever going to post, now is the time, but I still feel reluctant to post this, but here goes – done about two weeks ago.
At least open the Eisbrecher links, and maybe the "MXRobosapiens".
Hello - l0dr3!

I would have liked to have been raised with a musically inclined family, my parents, particularly my father had an ear for a few different types of music, the rest had tin ears.

I mostly, I like instrumental music (sans voice) with dynamics in the range of volume and varying rhythm - a change-up within the song.

A teenage friend of mine who had several guitars and other band equipment once said to me, "My last name, I like music, but you're like insane with it."

Sorry, I don't have any music similar to CharlesV's Gestapostomp :p or l0dr3's blues.

This is what I think of when I think of blues.

Yeah, I'm going to throw one in there that might not be to most peoples tastes, but it's a freakin awesome way to test an audio systems capabilities.

Il Divos album Ancora. Yes. it's classical music and most likely not to most peoples taste, but it does grow on you. I discovered, quite by accident there are a couple tracks on there that can cause loudspeakers to suddenly become scratchy tweeters. Yep, I've blown 2 sets of speakers when I forgot about some sudden deep bass tones that fried the voice coils in seconds, a danger I never expected with classical music.
This is now my go-to album to test a new set of speakers :)

And you KNOW I am going to have to listen to this! There are SO many good classical pieces - and I love seeing artists redo or create new. And some of the best movie sound track producers have written some amazing classical music too.

@l0dr3 love it!! You just reminded me of a funny story - I was in a mall in New Mexico a few years back and they were playing Y&T on the sound system. I walked up to one of the gents that was enjoying the music and asked him if he knew who was playing - just to see if he knew. (Y&T is seriously NEVER played here.)

He said no, but they were a new group that had just had a hit. His reaction was stunned horror when I told him that the group, was formed in 1974 and told him to look up Yesterday & Today (aka Y&T) The look on his face was truly priceless!

Stumbled upon this site on reddit while searching for a Spotify frontend.
http://magnatune.com/ → rock → [4th one from left (Green Album)] → Conway Hambone: Trash Guitar Workouts
Elastic Band-Paul Worsley
Click square box in upper right corner of album to open that album.
Can R-Click on this to open in new tab.
After clicking in album can click in song "timeline" dots to advance song.
Can R-Click on album and open in new tab.
Or just press the play button in the middle of this album: http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/con ... uts?song=3 :band:

Don't think it's a great site, just unique - not sure about the song base/count.

Great combo of legendary players!

One of my faves that I own the vinyl of is Super Session https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxRIcjsjdYE

Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield & Steven Stills
This 'session' was regarded by some as the precursor to Blood Sweat & Tears - formed by Al Kooper (no relation to Alice Cooper).

Yeah, I bought my copy of that excellent album back in the day.

I also bought back then the original vinyl of Blood, Sweat, And Tears, "Child Is Father To The Man."

Both quite excellent, indeed, most excellent, albums.

Since then, after Blood, Sweat And Tears II or III, they seemed to go commercial.

Such a shame. Such great music innovation turned into pop music....

Oh well..

The Autumn album by The Elder Brothers has been released and is available on all major streaming platforms as well as Bandcamp. The album was recorded at Bandshed Records Studio with various versions of Ardour on various versions of AV Linux…

Liner notes:
Autumn signifies the transition from harvest with it’s bounty to the stillness of winter. It is a time for reflection. When we set out on this project our intention was to record some songs for posterity, but as work progressed we were filled with feelings of gratitude and surprise. We are thankful for the musical family and friends that we have been blessed to work with over these many years, and for the creativity and craft the writers of these songs have shared with the world. As we move from autumn to winter in our own lives we are happily surprised to discover that we still have the energy to reimagine them in our own way.

We hope you enjoy and thanks for listening!

I made musicvideo with royalty free music "Feel So Alive". (almost personal work)
Only used "Wallpaper submission by Freja" topic's "The Twelve" collection.

My Savior (Version Final - Tue Mar 26, 2024 9:12 pm)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuaCvffcvyA

It was hard work... I'll take a rest today.

...

this is mystery solving video.

"Who is She?"
"What is Savior?"
"Why Freja serching her?"

Interesting not the most cheerful commentary of audio unfortunately very true about humans and their behavior thou, that is when I finally got to see it,
Invidious is sooo intrusive and downright annoying ! Hate that thing avoid videos if I can these days.

That video reminded me of Leonard Nimoy for some reason umph ?

Thanks for the links @MXRobo.

So, we were in a little stone house in Appalachian foothills, passing a guitar back and forth by the big fireplace after work. Everybody had a tune to share. This was not one of the tunes, but could have been:

KCRW out of Santa Monica College used to have some great shows with new talent they would air. I would have bought some of those artists if I could have.

http://killradio.org:8000/killradio64.mp3 when it first started also would have some talented new artists as well. Probably still do if you catch them when they are playing it.
http://mp3stream4.abradio.cz:8000/metalomanie128.mp3 out of Czechoslovakia plays hard rock 24/7 with almost zero commercials.

Hi,

Not sure if we have any Blues fans here but I have just created a Web page for my Video Restoration hobby and have posted a compilation I made from my own Video collection of the incredible Albert, BB and Freddie King.

Great stuff!!! I saw Muddy Waters at the Colonial Tavern in downtown Toronto in the summer of 1973 and BB King in the sixties when he was still a featured player in Bobby Bland's band.

Thanks!

Those must have been some incredible shows, Wow! I stupidly missed Muddy Waters probably the one and only time he was in London ON but was fortunate to see BB on a few occasions, one of them was in Toronto at the old El Mocambo in the early 80's, it had nightclub table seating (I'm sure you've been there as well!) and we were right in front of the stage, an amazing night! BB's band in some of the footage were the same guys who played that show.. Anyway thanks for watching and even more for commenting! I'm pulling together all my Grand Funk Railroad footage for the next one, much of the footage is pretty badly damaged unreleased stuff from the so-called 'import' market, going to have fire up the old turd polisher...lol.

Yeah the El Mo was one of my favourite haunts. I saw Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, the Doobie Brothers before they hit it big. Rahsaan Roland Kirk, the Downchild Blues Band, Junior Wells, and Buddy Guy a few times.

For the past month I've been obsessed with the West African rock scene. This is Mdou Moctar from Agadez, Niger.
The guitar work he does is phenomenal and those leads with just his index finger is incredible.
