I'm a bit mystified by this. I can browse network shares (NTFS) from Thunar with no problem. I have just checked it running live and then immediately after a fresh install. Navigating from 'Browse Network' to the shared folder (partition in this case) adds a Network entry 'smb://Annesroom/Winfiles' which I can then use directly. I have to repeat the navigation on subsequent boots.

Am I the only one for whom this is working?
I do not know the secret sauce to get samba shares working on the MX side. Installed samba, and get an errror in Thunar when accessing the network, How does one share a folder. Do you have to mess with the samba.cfg file?[/quote]

well...I am running live with persistence. everything seems to be working, but I'm at home today and guess what works...network share browsing! For whatever reason, share browsing at work doesn't work, but browsing at home does. There must be something in the two network configs that's different, because I haven't changed anything on the install. And I have NOT installed the samba package. This is totally with whatever is on the beta2 (second) iso by default.

You mean the Network icon in Thunar? When I click on that I get the cryptic error message "Failed to open "/" On"

I have been attempting to install Samba on the B2. Synaptic always tells me that the package is broken, and that I need to fix it/them.

I cannot locate any instructions for doing so.
Although it usually took me numerous attempts, I was usually successful at setting Samba up on previous versions of Mepis.

What is different here?

Which of the distributions is the recommended one for Synaptic to be accessing?

Which of the many Samba entries should I select for installation--I tried Samba (plain) and received the "Fix broken package" error?

Thanks,
Jerry in Anchorage

some progress. Installed gvfs-backends. That eliminated the error message. I Then had to edit the ~.config/connectshares/connectshares.conf file and add the IP of my other machine on the network. I then can get a Workgroup icon from Network. But it errors being unable to find shares.

This has come up several times.

Install samba by using the metapackage-installer.

Anti--

If your post was for me (Jerry in Anchorage), I can locate no information on "metapackage-installer" that seems to apply to MX-14.

What is it, & where is it? Please?

Since the MX site is temporarily broken, if you need to get the Beta2 at this moment you can use this direct link:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/antix-l ... X-14/beta/
