I don't think speed is really an issue. even my eeepc was fine IMO.CharlesV wrote: Mon Jun 12, 2023 11:26 amCool.. I dont have anything that goes down below 1280x800 . And that worked ok. The slowest Dell laptop I have is slower i3, but has an ssd in it, and the animation wasnt smooth on it but it was ok.Freja wrote: Mon Jun 12, 2023 5:40 am @CharlesV
My MX-MacBook Pro 15 nvidia is when shutdown,
all nothing pisplay (blackscreen) and shuts down.
I think this is not boot plymouth problem, other cause.
(I think your code is probably perfect.)
Your tested 5machines included low resolution model? (ex: 1366x768,1024x768, 1280x800 etc.)
If this boot-animation can run on low resolution machines,
Our works is looks like perfect.
The 1920x1200 images as D_O said will be cut off top and bottom by any screen under 800, the other issue is file size. The 1920 graphics will be a tiny bit slower, but they are only 8kb larger, so it probably wont be too much more noticeable.
I have one slower computer I will test today after I build it ;_) .. I believe the slowest thing I have is an AMD FX-8350 on platter - I will check. Probably setup on a pocket drive and on a slow computer will be a little off.

Re: MX Boot Animation at testing
So, even on my slowest machine the animation graphic seems ok. ( again, smallest monitor I have is a 1280x800) . The older feb code / graphics is a little smoother looking, but its minimal.
One thing I noticed when I ran the code on the MX 23 Alpha I have, the MXLive theme name was changed to MXLiveLogo, however the script remarks were not modified and still say MXLive
With the name change, that should be

Re: MX Boot Animation at testing
The latest mods to MXLiveLogo ( MXLiveLogo_230617aa.zip )
- Dropped back to the 60% images Freja created (thank you) and this resolved most issues with size.
- Added password dialog for encrypted setup, hidden on non encrypted.
- Found an interesting 'second cycle' happening on startup screen. Fixed
- Modified all scripts, files etc to be MXLiveLogo
- Modified directions IN script to use MXLiveLogo
- Tested on various VM sizes, and 1920, 1280, 1024, and even tortured it down to 800x600
- Tested on 6 machines, 4 VM's ( 9- 21.x 1- mx23 beta HP 2022 laptop)
Going to do more testing over the next few days, but pretty confident it will work well.

Re: MX Boot Animation at testing
OK, final touches done, testing completed. (still no shutdown on MX23 on any laptop I have - desktop ok.)
This version includes the following mods:
- Freja added to script header for Artwork (sorry - I kept forgetting this!)
- Optimized script for smoother transitions during animation
- Optimized shutdown images again.
- Setup progress indicators, but left remarked out
- Password dialog for encrypted drives, visual mods.
This new version can be downloaded here.

@CharlesV
Just wanted to say you have done a fantastic job with the animation.
It looks great.
I'm using whatever version came with mx23 beta. Animation shows for both startup and shutdown on my laptop.

No, the MX23 beta 2 version that was installed was the first time I saw an issue with the shutdown animation. In fact, I cannot get ANY animated shutdowns to work on either of my two testing laptops. (ie not just mine) Desktop works fine though.. so .. something amiss there with the drivers or plymouth... still working that one out.
