Amazing, not many updates recently, and today 100 updates... Restarted system and everything appears good on restart. Though this was significant enough to post...

The large number of updates might be coming from the http://security.debian.org/ repo. I think they're planning on doing an update from Debian 7.1 -> 7.2 in the next week or two. The updates usually appear in the security repo or the wheezy-updates repo (what used to be 'volatile') before a point update.

Well maybe they're from the backports repo instead of the security repo, the packages with the "~bpo70" suffix are backports.

@namida, the updates without "~bpo70" suffixes look like they're security updates, the first dozen or so that I looked at anyway.

The latest mepis-config added and enabled wheezy-backports by default. If this was not a mistake, (it doesn't look like it)* it's going to make an updated M12= Wheezy + MEPIS + wheezy-backports. It should also cut down on duplication of effort, since why should Warren rebuild Libreoffice, when it's already in backports? The same thing goes for many packages in the CR, too.

* /etc/apt/preferences.d/90mepis now contains:

Code: Select all

Package: *
Pin: release v=12.0,o=MEPIS,a=mepis,n=mepis-12.0,l=MEPIS
Pin-Priority: 902

Package: *
Pin: release o=Mepis community repository, n=mepis11cr
Pin-Priority: 901

Package: *
Pin: release o=Debian,l=Debian-Security
Pin-Priority: 801

Package: *
Pin: release o=Debian,n=wheezy*,l=Debian
Pin-Priority: 800

Package: *
Pin: release a=wheezy-backports
Pin-Priority: 800

Package: *
Pin: release o=Ubuntu
Pin-Priority: 400
Hmm--the CR version is still wrong, but doesn't seem to make much difference to Synaptic if set to prefer "mepis". I don't know what the Ubuntu entry is doing in there at all. Generally, you're on your own when installing those, since the results are unpredictable.

Hmmm. I just checked, and I have no update. Do you have something other than the M12 repositories listed in the Wiki?

Namida's update to Chrome 30 wasn't from Warren's M12 repo or the Debian Wheezy repos, it came from the dl.google.com repo

Code: Select all

deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main

Code: Select all

kent@mepis1:~$ apt-cache policy google-chrome-stable
google-chrome-stable:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 30.0.1599.66-1
  Version table:
     30.0.1599.66-1 0
        500 http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable/main i386 Packages
kent@mepis1:~$
@Namida, try starting Chrome in a terminal and post any error messages that appear.
