Thanks. I have discovered that in Trixie a separate package (picom.conf) contains that file picom.conf.example but it is still installed in the same location you give. @m_pav That needs to be added to the build list please.ceeslans wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 7:46 am@Jerry3904: one correction to my post: for picom v/12.0 the backend must explicitly be chosen (as declared in your error message too).Jerry3904 wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 7:00 am Awesome, thanks--very much appreciate the support. I think you already gave me that but it got buried somewhere since.
@m_pav @dolphin_oracle I would swear that we had this set up in one of the alphas earlier. How do you want to proceed to correct this?
For MXFB25 (picom version 12.0) I would suggest to set it to the default value:Code: Select all
backend = "xrender";
I have now set this all up and will test--back in a minute.

Hmmm. Apparently do not have setup just right, since after rebooting nothing in Tweak > Compositor is active. I'll leave this alone and let people who actually know what they are doing take a look when possible.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
@Jerry3904 there is a generic/basic picom.conf file stored in /usr/share/mx-tweak/ that is copied over if enabled from tweak, as well as a zpicom.desktop startup file copied to ~/.config/autostart. the desktop file has a startup line. I did not realize that the compositor tab was enabled on fluxbox. it has not in the past.

Good opportunity to expand mx repo manager to allow editing or adding of repo sources in general ?dolphin_oracle wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:07 amit won't anyway. synaptic does not support the *.sources format deb822 format. and it likely won't.i_ri wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:06 am hello dolphin_oracle

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
I have two minor points that I though I would address regarding the new MX-25 Xfce sysVinit.
1. The Thunar "File System" icon is barely visible when the Thunar left-pane is set to either 16px or 24px, using either the Tree or Shortcuts view.
2. Clicking the time ("Clock") in the Panel will launch the Orage calendar. My suggestion is to not stop there but add the option to toggle the Orage calendar open and close. That was how it worked by default in MX-19. (MX-25 retains the method MX-23 uses of only launching the Orage calendar when the time in the Panel is clicked.)
This is done by adding the -t option after the orage command as shown by the red arrow in the below Shapshot.

- Occurs using either the Tree or Shortcuts view
- Larger icon sizes, e.g. >=32px, show a proper (darker) icon (only the 16px and 24px size has the problem)
- Papirus is the system icon setting (the other Papirus icon settings for light themes do not have this problem)
- The Greybird Application theme and Kokodi Window theme are used
- This does not occur in MX-21 or MX-23

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
I have noticed two problems with MX 25 Beta KDE.
1- If the sound volume is changed then Dolphine opened the volume notification slider at the middle of the screen will keep showing up repeatedly. This problem also exists in Debian 13 and Kubuntu 25.04.
2- No power profile in battery system tray widget. I can't change between Power Save/Balanced/Performance.

I had this on MX 23.Stuart_M wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:38 am I have two minor points that I though I would address regarding the new MX-25 Xfce sysVinit.

It doesn't happen with the old Debian repo version of papirus-icon-theme that MX 23 ships with. It does happen with the debian-backports version or the latest version from GitHub.
Last year Papirus changed the color on some symbolic icon sizes and the color they used is the same as the thunar side pane backgound color used in some desktop themes.
