To the best of my knowledge, I've not made any changes to the boot-up process other than to edit /etc/default/grub to remove the "quite splash" from the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT parameter.

This is installed as the only O/S on the system and is installed on bare-metal.

Here's my QSI:

If you really want some kind of major problem from me: my Wifi isn't working.
But that's because I have an RTL8723DE chipset (on HP laptop 17-ak0xx). But I was hoping it would work because starting from kernel 5.4 I don't need any extra wifi modules on Kubuntu nor on Mint Xfce. On top of this https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git seems offline, so can't test whether it would work with those drivers added. Would be wonderful if you could make this work like Ubuntu derivatives nowadays do (maybe something for other topic as this applies to xfce too of course).
Bluetooth seems fine though.

(Extra Muon ranting: it can't search on package name only. I know it looks more polished than Synaptic but that's about it. At least it can install Synaptic, the latter can't do that...)

I found out I have to use lwfinger/rtw88 now. Wifi works fine after:

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw88.git
cd rtw88
make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe rtw_8723de
no reboot needed and building kernel modules didn't take as irritatingly long as it used to do on Kubuntu

Another definitely non-major issue, but I'll mention it anyway:
I don't know if you're aware of this, but on first boot the favorites in the menu are: Conky Toggle, LibreOffice, MX Tools, MX Package Installer, MX User Manual, Konsole, Ksysguard and Quick System Info. But when I switch the 'Application Launcher' to something else ('Menu' or 'Dashboard') I have Firefox, System Settings, Dolphin and Kate added to this list (which is actually standard Plasma behavior). And when I switch back to the 'Launcher' they are still there, all of which may not be intended. And having Kate like this in the menu favorites creates a tiny conflict with having Kwrite as the default text program, because people may not realize they're using a different program. Personally I prefer Kate, maybe just because it has tabs, but in this version (18.08) it doesn't seem to integrate with programs like Kompare or Kdiff3, which is a little bummer. There's nothing really wrong with Kwrite but some may think it superfluous when you have Kate. Slightly confusing for beginners may be that Kate opens everything in the same window, so when you close that, your other text files are closed too, which may not be intuitive.

Today after applying the MX Tweak update; the session was closed and when I come back I get that notification about the /home:
"The file system mounted on /home is not responding"
On reboot it was corrected.

Bonjour,

Hello,
As for the previous versions, if I choose Swiss French in the installation, the installation is in English.
If I choose France, the installation is in French.
But a part of MX is in English and I have to install several packages (the ones that appear when I search for french in the package installer)
Moreover, the repositories which are proposed once the installation is finished do not work, I must systematically go in the utility of choice of repositories to find a repository which works.
I have these bugs also under xfce and on older versions.
Maybe because I'm Swiss.

What was the modification in the virtualbox-guest-utils-modified-init package?

When I installed Beta 2 (real metal) and tried to run Virtualbox on the same, my VM (manjaro kde) kept flickering and flashing whenever I scrolled dolphin or webpages using the mouse. If I clicked on various places on the screen, the flashing might also happen.

I didn't face this issue in the alphas (didn't install VB in Beta 1).

the init script shipped with b2 did not have the lines for using vmsvga.

however, that init script only runs inside a VM. in other words, if your host is MX, and your VM is manjaro, we didn't touch anything with the update.
