(Also on two HDD installs.)

I tried opening Catfish from Whisker, from Thunar context menu, and from Thunar menu 'Find files here'. In each case, 'find' was set as default, and worked as expected.

When starting Catfish from within Thunar by either method, changing 'find' to 'locate' resulted in the error message "Fatal error, search was aborted." The window could be closed normally however, so there was no crash.

Yes, the locate and fulltext search is working after doing an "updatedb".

locate is installed as mlocate.

No issues on my box either catfish/locate from menu or within Thunar. This is a straight after logging in.

I just tried searching with catfish/locate for something I know would show up in the default system (the word "installed" ) and I got several hits, and no crash. So this seems better.

It begins to look to me like in both this and the Thunar tree view case, the issue might be one of initial system scanning and db populating--if that makes sense.

Will take a look at the Xfce forum on this topic.

The build script runs updatedb in a chroot before building the squashfs file system (linuxfs0 and the iso.

It should not be necessary to do it before running catfish/locate.

Just got the fatal error by searching for "fred" which I'm pretty sure isn't in the installed system anywhere. Doesn't crash, just give the nasty looking error "fatal error: search aborted".

A simply file not found would have be sufficient. ;)

When the 1.6 series was released last year, most of the commentary was about crashing:

The version we are using (1.6.3) is nine months old, so maybe an update is in the works.

I don't like catfish because it's never worked properly for me. I installed gnome-search-tool as a custom action on my wheezy xfce instead.

We would use that if we had the room, but we don't.
