CharlesV wrote: Sun Jul 13, 2025 10:22 am You got it, those were instructions on how to post your QSI.

So, this shows that your WiFi is up... are you trying to add a secondary WiFi Adapter?
I am exhausted from trying to install the driver for the Realtek RTL8188FTV WiFi Adapter on another laptop, where I successfully installed MX Linux, but could not install the driver. So, I was trying to help by developing a snapshot after installing the driver with the WiFi Adapter in this laptop. Can someone please help me install a driver for the Realtek RTL8188FTV WiFi Adapter?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Post the QSI from the laptop you are having problems with. Not the working one.

From some searches it looks like the rtl8xxxu module should be a driver for the RTL8188FTV wifi adapter
https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=295485
https://github.com/kelebek333/rtl8188fu
https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=155331
but it's not in the 6.1 debian bookworm kernel, it was added to kernel starting with 6.2 kernels.

The simple way without reinstalling MX is to add the ahs section to the MX repository, upgrade everything, and then upgrade your kernel using MXPI to one >= 6.2, and then rebooting to that kernel.

You could check beforehand by running a LiveUSB of the MX AHS edition to make sure the wi-fi works.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

I am trying to install the Realtek RTL8188FTV WiFi Adapter driver on a 64-bit old legacy BIOS laptop with MBR, and when I search on Google realize that MX Linux's Advanced Hardware Support (AHS) does not specifically target or support older BIOS systems with MBR partitions. AHS is designed for newer hardware that requires specific drivers and firmware, such as that found in 64-bit systems with newer AMD and Intel processors and graphics cards.

Now, the time being, I can run the system by sharing internet from my cell phone to install the driver, but I don't find any alternative.

Am I right?

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have the AHS version running on my Aspire V5 (which dates from 2012) without any ill effects. Is your machine older than that. Also, when you say you searched the internet, did the search involve AI? AI still can't be trusted because it fills its knowledge gaps with garbage.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Like @Stevo mentioned, enable the AHS repo first, then install a newer kernel.

Get the laptop online and then open MX Repo Manager. Go to the Individual sources tab and under the mx.list section, check mark the bookworm ahs box.
Close MX Repo Manager and open a terminal and type

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
Now open MX Package Installer and under the Popular Applications tab expand kernels. Select Liquorix 64 bit (ahs updates package) and install.
Reboot after the installation is finished.

AHS is basically backports from Debian Trixie upstream, which will still support 64-bit hardware, even ye olde hardware, so the AI is misleading in this case.

Trixie is dropping support for any i386 hardware, alas.
