I should have mentioned that this is booting live from USB.

Chris
Was the installation performed on a dos or gpt partiontable. If gpt, best to have as first a 1MB bios_grub partition setup,
otherwise bios/mbr-grub loader may have difficulties to find it's core.img loader on the drive.
Not installed; it fails to boot live.

Error message, or black screen? Where does it fail?

Still a bit unclear (for me):
chrispop99 wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 12:07 pm I should have mentioned that this is booting live from USB.
and this:
chrispop99 wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 2:36 pm Not installed; it fails to boot live.
So not sure, how to read this.
OTOH, is it the same with dd-dumped LiveUSB or only with full-feature mode.
What the error you got? Only a blank screen or do you got the sys/isolinux LiveBoot menu? And it hangs later?

Adrian wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 2:47 pm Error message, or black screen? Where does it fail?
It gets as far as 'udev done' then goes to a black screen.

I've tried using Alt-F1 to see what the last message is, but it's too quick for me.

(Edit)

I videoed the boot process on my phone, and then played it in slow motion.
The last message before it fails is:

Code: Select all

Starting NetBIOS name server: nmbd

that may be a graphics issue maybe? what kind of graphics hardware is on that machine.

Suggest to enable the video card menu using F4-option vcard=menu at the LiveBoot menu.
You would see a selection menu of the found video cards.
That's just in case kms-modesetting made something so lightdm could get X convince to start.

For black screen issue, during live boot menu
Remove default boot option. Leave it blank
select F6 fail safe
then manual log in demo / demo

startx

Thanks; that allows the machine to boot. These machines are intended only for release testing, not for everyday use, so that would not be a good solution going forwards.
