Well, normally, I'd be right with you on this, but Linux has needed a competitive image editor for a long time now, and GIMP 3.0 basically represents the first big step towards that. Same thing with FreeCAD and its topological naming problem that's held it back for years and years but is now finally on its way to getting fixed once and for all.

I don't understand people asking for the MX devs to build RC's and betas when there are available appimages and flatpak versions available for the adventurous.

It's not that hard after I built the first RC1, because the same babl and gegl base libraries are already built. I hear most existing addons and plugins need to be rewritten for GIMP 3, though.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

As a long time user of FreeCAD (and many other CAD systems through my long life) I feel you should temper your expectations...
Topological naming problem is not on it's way to getting fixed - the issue will be mitigated but not "solved" ;)
anyway... this discussion is for another place (sorry for OT drift)

GIMP 3.0 has officially been released. (two days ago)

Why do today's graphic designers think that flat is the new look. I prefer the old Wilber look with it's shadowing.

This time they have an official AppImage. I tried that yesterday and appeared to work with no problems on MX 23.5 Xfce ahs.

+1 on the old wilber. Or the blaze version ( which I seem to have all over the place? )

For a graphics program, you would think that they would want to show off it's capabilities. Even that blaze version looks so much better.
