Sound does not work outside of XFCE with other WMs
Re: Sound does not work outside of XFCE with other WMs
If you simply install pulse using synaptic, synaptic will automatically do what needs to be done to switch from wireplumber back to pulse. It's just that easy, provided you get the tray plugin for xfce, if using xfce. I ran with wireplumber for a couple weeks til i got tired of the inconsistent audio dropouts where the OS said I had no audio at all. Pulse has been working flawlessly since. Not a single issue whatsoever.

Re: Sound does not work outside of XFCE with other WMs
Hi all! Thankyou for the very helpful advice and directions. I have decided like @davidy to take pipewire out of my system altogether and reinstall everything pulse and alsa and yes, everything works now. I do get a very annoying issue when I start audacity and some other audio apps that the audio for that app get auto muted and I do see the message pop up that audio is muted. It took me a few fumbles with audio device assignments and pulling my hair and almost going back to Winows XP and 7 to finally figure out that the new Pulse tray plug in has to do with the auto muting of things but I just go to the icon and click it, I see my audacity is muted in the pulse mixer icon below the system sound, and I unmute it. Now I have to do this everytime I use Audacity but at least now I know what to look for even before I start. I guess that is better than no sound at all on any apps. Now I have not tried my other windowmanagers and audacity to see if I get sound or not so that will be another story but system audio with firefox does work across the board and I reckon that was my biggest concern. So pipewire is a systemD friendly audio driver? I need to try my AVL-MXE 23.2 to see what is what cause I did not know E desktop was mostly systemd. But.. G.N.O.M.E. desktop was bundled with E in the past so it makes sense.davidy wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 4:21 am If you simply install pulse using synaptic, synaptic will automatically do what needs to be done to switch from wireplumber back to pulse. No more and no less than pulseaudio.. So pipewire is a systemD friendly audio driver?

HI
when you launch audacity and click the button "Audio Setup" the response you most likely be alsa.
And now check your playback device.....it might be that its set to default but just choose a hw you can see.....
should show either card/device 0 as either analog or hdmi. For most people its hdmi but thats not you want if you want to use mic input.
assuming you want 3.5mm headphone output or laptop speakers etc....playback is to be analog
I am not sure what Intel Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio vendor is.
good luck
