Thank you to all that replied and tried to assist me. Firstly I totally understand that while it's been a beast over the decade+ and I have been looking into upgrades with ram and either replacing hdd w new hdd or just go ssd full on. I use an external as of now that I keep most of everything on, a lot of medias. Speaking of to answer questions asked re what's not working, there have been a few, mostly conversion software. ( Handbrake, QWinFF,WinFF, imgBurn, most recent MystiQ) Some I used in prior distos some new but I have mostly optained from discover or mx package. I have used apt a few times, use nala now as I know installing or uninstalling best in the cmd line. My internal "Superdrive kicked it some time ago, been using external, yet another old but still quite unused, Super slim portable DVD writer, LG GP60NB50. My main goal here is to get all my media on a DVD and or thumbdrive. It may seem the opposite of what most ppl are doing but I am one of those ppl that are worried of a net and or electric problem and plus I aim to be much more off th grid. This ole mac may die any time, knock on wood and I like to watch things on my larger TV. I did not like Dolphin as it by default give no root access. PCman is more my style, more basic. As far as the perms and owner stuff, I know it's something with the user/usr? I know I could just chown/mod do a 766,755 etc but I don't want to break system or lock myself out. Been there, done that earlier this year. and that I have been able to do whats needed to move into the Linux world, which I love. I get it, I am old school, love my analog when possible. I got a nice 15''G4 needing an OS! Otherwise I mostly just watch the news and my kiddo likes a few games on here along with the educational content. BTW anyone know how to play audio output with usb out and bluetooth at same time? THX again!
