@siamhie thanks for the numbers. MX KDE is very efficient compared to other KDE based distros.

I will leave it running then for a while, see what happens. All that is running is htop, nothing else.anticapitalista wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:49 am I noticed that as well @Eadwine Rose Any data is useful.
I will try that base and core later on in a VM.
If anything, it passes the time here *chuckles*
edit: well.. highest seen is 537. Not bad. :) Gonna throw my sights on base and core now, see if they report different values. And just because it is fun

Re: I wish for Antix KDE Plasma
Interesting things I find out. Running core now.
1 my memory is better than I thought
2 I have slapped this thing every which way from Sunday now, help needed lol
I do have to pick the failsafe option from the available options for it to actually keep working and not hang while still in that menu.
I have gone ahead and done that wget thing from the antixforum first, then ran antiX-cli-cc and told it to run the installer. It asks if I want to install some software now, should run apt-get update. Yes please, huge list gets pulled in, "It appears that at least one list file is missing, you should probably run apt-get update now"
I just did you .. thing. You have some huge amounts of mbs pulled in, pick something!
Of course doesn't work that way
, so.. stuck in a loop on this one. Is there something I am missing?
edit: I can click no and then ignore and update what I want to update, so it is doing something again at least
...and I am installing kde standard now.. lol guess I managed to get out of the loop
final edit on this antix core thing: no space left on device.. I gave it plenty.. *shrug* anyway, yeah, it failed. I'll just go fiddle with base now.

Re: I wish for Antix KDE Plasma
antiX with KDE would not be antiX. Performance would not be as good and this is the main antiX target.

Running on antiX base, kde full (yeah that goes quicker when you know what you are doing haha), started out with 515mb. So.. looks like not much difference so far. Gonna let that sit and see what it does. :)

Re: I wish for Antix KDE Plasma
I should have mentioned installing KDE on antiX-core needs a lot of work, patience and knowledge of which parts to add (which I certainly don't have as I have never used KDE).
Another reason why there won't be any official antiX-KDE version is because installing it brings in elogind and antiX is both systemd-free and elogind-free.

Re: I wish for Antix KDE Plasma
Absolutely right. I tried installing the 'neededs', as I thought they might be needed, but it's just.. a hassle really.
This base version jumped to 644mb right after coming back from the lockscreen, but overall when the screen is active it doesn't fluctuate as much as the antiX full version, more stable. It is on 518 now, and I have been eyeing it on the other screen, it's not budging.
We'll never run antiX with KDE, nope, but it is interesting to try though.
Oh.. by the way, the one list file missing thing on updating is also showing up in base.

Re: I wish for Antix KDE Plasma
Thanks @Eadwine Rose
I decided not to use a login manager in this experiment (antiX-base runit version) so I removed lxdm, lightdm and slimski.
I set up autologin and rebooted.
htop now shows 450 MB and it boots to desktop in about 13 seconds.

I would wager it is about the same here. I need to log in and all that, and enter some typos of course when I try to hurry

Re: I wish for Antix KDE Plasma
515MB is meaningless for recent computers of the last two years. It's not much for a modern pc of the last 5-10 years but it can be much or too much for older ones. antiX default starts with about 150MB and it's not only about RAM but also CPU and GPU. MX Fluxbox starts with about 350MB. These "little" differences of RAM usage are huge when we are talking of systems before 2010 with 1GB-512MB and reviving such systems it's antiX target.Eadwine Rose wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2024 11:01 am Running on antiX base, kde full (yeah that goes quicker when you know what you are doing haha), started out with 515mb.
