Request MX-23: latest HPLIP 3.24.4

My old HP laserjet printer is busted. A guy gave me a working HP Laserjet 1300 which is wired to my desktop tower and is recognized by HP Toolbox. But I get a "device communication error 5012" which prevents printing and might only be corrected with the latest hplip 3.24.4. [From Synpatic, I've got the latest hplip version available to MX-23 users, version 3.22.10+dfsg0-2 ]
Kindly make this 3.24.4 version available to us.
Thanks for your attention to this posting.

Have you tried the 3.23 version in MX Packageinstaller (MXPI) Test Repo?
Use MXPI to search for and install.

The LaserJet 1300 has been supported by hplip since before version 1.0. I doubt a new version will help.

In that case, the Original Poster needs to post his Quick System Info, which he can find in the applications menu.

Did no one here see anything useful in my QSI that would help with my HP Laserjet 1300 printer software problem?

That printer requires minimum driver package version 0.9.5 to work.

Typing groups in konsole, I only see these listed:
Code: Select all
sps7 lp dialout cdrom floppy sudo audio dip operator video plugdev users netdev lpadmin vboxsf scanner sambashare
Is anything key missing?

Does it work in a live session of MX?

Does the device show up when you check
in a terminal?

Yes it does. Again in konsole, I see this line with others too:
Code: Select all
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 03f0:1017 HP, Inc LaserJet 1300

No, I didn't do the installation due to timkb4cq's comment in post #2. Also, since the printer shows up in HP Toolbox and in lsusb, is it necessary to do that installation?
I only have Synaptic not that other package installer mentioned. I'd have to make a switch in Synaptic to install that test hplip package. Correct? [Again, I only have the lastest, standard hplip package installed from Synaptic. It's hplip 3.22.10+dfsg0-2 ]

The printer's now working. When I got this printer, I first turned to the HP user's manual for this model. I found the manual rather poorly prepared and didn't understand various, basic things and arrangements. But all's well now that I tried something after getting some help elsewhere. [I never did install the test hplip package so the current standard one found in Synpatic's swell for me and I figure every one too.] [This HP Laserjet 1300 seems to be found ~ 2011 or so.]
I'm sorry I caused you to ponder this problem even though I know you fellow MX users are always tip-top as helpers. [I've never become any kind of expert-- I just love and use MX Linux and it simply works for me all the time. As an older guy, I get into trouble once in a while.

Open your menu and go to MX Tools. Select MX Package Installer. Go to the MX Test Repo tab and search for hplip.

Yes, I see it there but why should I install that test package when the printer's now working with the installed standard hplip package found in Synaptic?

Seems your post went up before I could get mine posted. Glad it's sorted.

OK, do you know how to how to bring this to a conclusion by marking the tread as "Solved"?
