Browser slow cold start

Your HDD is eleven years old and well past it's replace by date. Even when it was new it was rated slow. See here:

You should replace it with an SSD.
As to Vivaldi's slow start, parts of it could be written on areas of the HDD that have already deteriorated.

There is something up with either you rig or your config.

Vivaldi on my dell tester is 4 seconds cold start, after a reboot.

Yet, Brave is not affected, it opens in about 5s.

When I was running MX 21, I thought I must have screwed up something, so last week I completely reinstalled MX23, did a fresh install of Vivaldi, no profiles, no addons.
Same result.

I tested in a VM of LinuxMint.
Both browsers open in the same time. (35s - but VMs are generally slower anyway)

So, if Brave opens in 5s on native system, I would expect similar times for Vivaldi.

Other users who report this problem have been on Debian12. So it seems Debian is the common factor.

You are the only one reporting this issue. If there was a problem with Vivaldi in general, other users would be chiming in to report it. That they are not and because none of us can duplicate your problem, makes this unique to your rig.

I disagree with the "it cannot be my hardware if other ..." .. it is VERY possible that you could be having an issue with your hard drive and it is affecting the cache or other area that vivaldi sits upon.

How old IS that hard drive ?

Also, and possibly more to the point, is that this could be something in the vivaldi config, cache or something entirely different. The error you posted seems to point to something with the video or a driver.

is Hardware acceleration ON?

Have you tried cleaning the system cache?
personally run stacer and I clear EVERYTHING other than trash, no longer than every two weeks (many times twice a week! While this may seem extreme, it keeps my machine running optimally ( imo )

Have you tried saving your extensions, bookmarks etc etc, then purging vivaldi ?
( then restart and then reload ONLY vivaldi to test - adding in extensions next, test and then finally bookmarks etc. )

IN four systems I have access too, vivaldi runs nearly 3 seconds on first startup, but my machines are ssd and very fast. My testers are not as fast and even those open vivaldi VERY quickly. That, along with nobody else complaining about this here ... I firmly do not believe that it is an 'mx' thing . (nor debian actually.) .. Your system is throwing an error..
