11may24 update - gnome dependency missing i think

I have just done the update today.... think it was 10.
I use Evolution as my Email Client and now unusable - it would seem a gnome dependency is missing from the latest updates. It has been working perfectly since i installed MX Linux a few months ago. I click on the icon in my panel, the screen loads and then disappears.
Technically i am not that knowledgeable but i would be grateful if this could be resolved.
[I have found Evolution faultless over the last few years. I am aware Thunderbird is the default email client for MX linux but i find it very slow for downloading compared with Evolution].

Also, if you start evolution from the terminal, do you get any error messages there?
I have just done the update today.... think it was 10.
Hmmm...not really obvious to me what "10" means.
Evolution in MX 23/Bookworm last updated more than a year ago.

None more recent for MX 21 or 19, neither.

'10' refers to the number of updates that were raised. Evolution ver 3.46.4-2 installed from MX Linux repo.
Just tried Evolution after posting 'quick system info' - [just added this afterwards] works fine. So i suppose my post has changed... why did it not work yesterday when i reported the fault?

I would suggest opening a terminal and running evolution there to see if there are any error messages. Please copy & paste them here if there are.

Hmm no. Fault still there.
Evolution loads and menus work. BUT now when i try to read an email Evolution goes blank. Did an aptitude 'upgrade' just to check and all 'up to date'.
Did a 'restart' but problem still there.

Thx for the suggestion below is the outcome
$ evolution

** (evolution:4187): CRITICAL **: 17:40:25.947: Attempted to add disallowed path to sandbox: /home/james/.local/share/evolution/preview-plugins

It would seem that this update has somehow deleted 'preview-plugins'

I would try creating the missing directory to see if that fixes the problem.
Code: Select all
mkdir -p /home/james/.local/share/evolution/preview-plugins

Thanks for the reply. I will create the directory but wonder what has been deleted inside the directory. I don't recall installing any plugins and can only presume that it looks for the directory and then crashes when it can find it.

Many thanks for your post i have created that directory but no change. Elsewhere i looked it claims to be a bug in Evolution as some other folk using different distros have posted in the Evolution mailing list.
I have tried switching to Thunderbird as it is the default email client for this distro. What i find awkward is that one cannot increase font size for messages... as i have posted in General Chat.

It was a while ago i posted this but i think i have got closer to the problem but on the technical side i am struggling. It is not an Evolution problem but a graphics issue.
It shouldn't be difficult to find out which packages were updated back in March and the graphics package that is missing or broken. My guess is that aptitude has removed one of them and i should have used the MX installer perhaps.
I do not know how MX Linux manages the packages. My QSI is in an earlier post.
A google was helpful but technically i haven't a clue.
https://www.google.com/search?q=GLXBadFBConfig
where the later provides this stackoverflow page as the first hit:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/655 ... adfbconfig
which explains what the error means. But i don't understand it.

It would seem that there is a problem with the graphics card and i would be grateful for advice. I do have a Nvidia card which i could put in but not sure how one shuts of the built in Intel one. Presumably it is in the BIOS.

In MX-Tweak -> Other (tab) look for the box about using the Intel driver instead of the default.
Whichever way it is set, try it the other way.
