A weird situation....CLOSED !

I'm having a weird problem and Ι would really appreciate any help you can give. I am running an appimage (in MX 21) which does work but ... not fully , it does not execute external calls to system applications, such as e.g. the yad file selector or anything else generally. Trying the same appimage in other operating systems such as Debian or Ubuntu I can't see this peculiarity. I would appreciate any attempt for help..! Thank you !

We are going to need your computer’s complete profile before we can proceed, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy for Forum” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.

Appimages are not 100% guaranteed to work as is. They only get packed with whatever libraries and dependencies that the dev THINKS is needed to work for various distros, so some libraries may have been overlooked. If the dev was creating the appimage on the latest Ubuntu for instance, maybe some libraries needed for older Debian might not have been included if the dev assumed all releases of Debian would have that library.

It might be helpful to see what error messages you get if you run the appimage from terminal.

See https://docs.appimage.org/introduction/quickstart.html for how to do that.

And what appimage is it?

For next time, please make your subject more about what is going on. Weird situation is less likely to get help here than "appimage doesn't execute".

Oh yes I understand !!
This appimage is of personal interest to me, because it comes from my own C program! So I've been trying for 2 years and with an older version of MX to make it run normally. I assumed that something must be wrong with the way the appimage was created, so I then I reported the fact to appimage creator. Of course, most creators have a tendency to think that their creation is perfect (!!) until proven otherwise, of course...!
Misunderstood at first...then he worked on it a bit...and came finally to the conclusion that his appimage creation program is fine for MX Linux OS as well.
So...I didn't stick to my claim...in vain !!!
It is a fact that the same appimage works perfectly in other popular OSes !
I thought it would be good to report it to you...after I got tired of trying it myself...maybe there was a permissions issue or some other settings issue...
Anyway ... many thanks for your interest !!

I definitely don't know this stuff – really, and I'm not sure what you mean by
because it comes from my own C program!
but could it be a SysVinit issue because that's what MX uses by default, you can boot to systemd, and change to it via MX-Boot Options.

Again purely speculating - good luck!

...and this is a part of the C program , it is a simple call to the external application "firefox" ! Unfortunately it doesn't respond and doesn't even return an error message. In general, the commands commands execl and popen ... somehow do not work (only to the apppimage environment)!

.
.
switch (user_ans) {

case 0 :
if (nofire) {i=1 ; break;}
strcpy (big_char,str1kb);
orisma[2]=big_char;
pid = fork();
if (pid<0) {perror("Fork...");break;}
else if (pid==0) {execl("/usr/bin/firefox","firefox","--new-tab",orisma[2],(char *)NULL); _exit(1);}
else {waitpid(pid,&status,WNOHANG);}
break ;

case 1 :
....etc
break;
}

And yet it's very likely to be as you say...some specificity I'm looking for...I just don't know the functional details and I'm afraid to mess with them !!
This is my application : https://sourceforge.net/projects/eortologio-gr/
Many thanks...!!

Considering you post in english but the appimage, or the folder extracted, both default to greek when opened with nary a way to change the language. Ya got me. No fullscreen either? Busy ap but I doubt many if any here speak greek.
As they say, "It's all greek to me"

@davidy
It is a specialized (folk) holiday and calendar application. In principle, it concerns religious holidays which are associated with Greek names. This is why it is necessarily limited to the Greek audience. All statutory world - international or National days have also been included. However...the application supports the English language when the user enters notes or enters his personal daily diary or when the user searches for something in these entries. Anyway, they may say it easily that it's all Greek for me... but as it turns out, it's definitely English too....
Thanks for your interest !
