3.5" jack output making clicking sound

Hello,

I installed MX Linux on my main PC and when I connect my speakers on 3.5" jack there is a clicking sound but this is not happening in Windows. When I connect my speakers on my display and HDMI output is used this doesn't happen. Also noticed when a videos is playing it's choppy like every time the audio is clicking. I also connected my speakers to the front output and the clicking is much less, but still there, without the choppy video. It's very confusing and I cannot find out why this is happening. Here is my Quick System Info :

I am guessing.....it could be an input sound, meaning somehow your mic input is active and that suggests that you used a GUI setting to choose duplex for analog out instead of output only.

Relook at your configuration tab please and report what is your current setting. When I was using pavucontrol in the past I chose 2 channel as I use desktop speakers or wired headphones

Thank you for the response. I chose Analog Stereo Output instead of Duplex, but unfortunately nothing changed. The clicking still persist. :frown:

Ok as no-one else has chipped in yet.

it may be possible to define a different intel model as per
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v4.14/s ... odels.html

Report your codec name please. Visually you can see it by running

Code: Select all

alsamixer -c0
or -c1 until you can see your output device. The codec is up top left hand corner as Chip (eg Realtek Alc892)

if you have trouble with F6 in alsamixer getting to your output device try

Code: Select all

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | grep Codec
change card0 to card1 card33 etc

2) We could then try....a /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf with contents
options snd-hda-intel model=string
so looking at my codec I might choose model=mario if I thought it would be worth trying

3) full reboot to test sound for each model you try....if no difference....delete the modprobe config file please

Unfortunately nothing happens. When I open the GUI Audio Mixer and check the outputs, when the clicking sound occurs (every 2 seconds) it seems like the built-in audio disconnects and reconnects instantly.

Hi GUI Audio Mixer to me means something like pavucontrol. the alsamixer (above) is a terminal command. So too is the cat command above. Can you try again please.
If you really did mean alsamixer terminal command is a GUI...try the cat proc command

cheers

@ghunter
You may be aware, but I could see why alsamixer might be considered a GUI in MX - because there is an Alsamixer app in MX even though it opens in the terminal - - at least it is in MX-21.3 Xfce.
Find in the Menu.
Just FYI - Cheers!

No, just mentioned another observation I made. I did what you said in alsamixer though.

... Maybe one of these, especially the fist one:

Code: Select all

... model=inv-dmic
or

Code: Select all

... model=acer-aspire

Ok thanks for the codec, in addition to Cb's config request....I found this post
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 1#p1685621

OP reports glitches or skipping not clicking.....but as its the same codec it may have merit.
so if full reboot with a config1 then full reboot with config2.....if that does not work see if you have a pipewire/pulseaudio config that has this setting please
load-module module-switch-on-port-available
and then disable it and full reboot.
2) I do not use pipewire or pulseaudio so will leave any trouble shooting to Charlie Brown if he has time.

Sorry for the delay. I tried everything but still nothing. So I did something radical and bought an external sound card and everything is fine now. Thanks for trying though.
