OK folks, I found the problem, in a local css that I made a long time ago. I got tired of manually expanding code just to see a few more lines in an old Windows forum, so I expanded it automatically via css, and then forgot about it. But in this forum the code blocks tend to be lengthy and initial full expansion got to be an annoyance. I've neutered the old css so the code boxes start collapsed.
This makes the need for a spoiler less weighty. Unless we're trying not to give away secrets, say, from the future MX roadmap....
