[NOT SOLVED] MX 23 KDE wifi connection speed always 0 Bit/s in MX 23 & 21

Hi MX people,

Does anyone know why my wifi connection speed always shows 0 Bit/s when connected in MX 23 KDE? I noticed that the same thing happened in MX 21 KDE but I didn't use it as a daily OS, I was using MX 19.4 KDE as a daily OS and it worked normal. Btw the signal strength % works.

I have my own Conky and on Thinkpad T490s the wifi speed shows correctly, but on DELL XPS 9510 just shows 1MB/s
Both running MX23 KDE

That's interesting, I noticed I said 0% but I meant 0 Bit/s and it always happens regardless of the network I use on my Dell N5010 and my HP Probook 4710s both running MX23 KDE

Still no fix for this issue...

Have you tried a different conky?

It looks like your using MX-Conkypatch ?
It is possible that your template is not correct in this conky. There are two templates for wifi and two for ethernet. But in my conky there is only template0 set for either one

Both on my laptop (wireless) and on my VM (wired) it shows perfectly.

Have you run one of the internet speed tests to determine what the value should be?

Sorry for the late reply, been really busy lately.

It's not a conky, it's the wifi in the task bar as the pic shows. Thanks anyway.

Sorry for the late reply, been really busy lately.

It's not the internet speed per se, it's the wireless connection speed from router to the laptop. Thanks anyway.

Is this a case where the WiFi is working but you have no idea of what your throughput is? Or is it hardly working at all?

Yes my internet is working fine, it's the OS that's not showing the connection speed as in the pic I posted, it's always at 0 Bit/s.

My lines in my conky. Note: personal conky, not a preinstalled one.

OP's issue is not with conky but the display on his network manager panel applet showing his connection details.

Imho you need to report it in KDE forums. A simple search shows it's a known bug since a long time. Some say it shows 0 , some say not zero but wrong values, and some say you need to keep it open for some time to see the correct values etc... Though these are not exactly the same, i.e.

Re: Widget Network Speed Settings (working?)

I guess this has still not been fixed as of May 2023. I'm running KDE/Plasma under Ubuntu 22.04 in a Parallels VM and the Info Center sees my network connection just fine but the System Monitor and the Network Speed widget think there is no network connection. It appears that it has to do with the switch to Netplan from the old networking protocol. The ethernet interface under the older protocol is eth0; just Netplan it is enp0s3. I also have a Parallels VM running Kali Linux, which still uses the older network protocol with network interface eth0 and the System Monitor and Network Speed widget see it with no problem.

The Netspeed Widget has been working fine here, right up until the latest update. For some reason, ksysguard was removed with the latest update, which is a dependency the Netspeed Widget needs in order to function.

You need to install ksysguard again, after that the widget should run fine:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install ksysguard
