Ah, while I was writing this, the discussion kind of already went to this direction :) ... So yeah, I was going to ask, if one has a fully functioning test system already migrated from MX-21 to MX-23 beta 2, can the RC1 updates be received in a regular fashion through the repos / MX Package Installer? Regarding the whole system, not just Fluxbox (which incidentally is what I'm using, in any case, as well!)
No, the beta releases will not upgrade automatically to the final release.
Yea, that was the answer I got in the other forums. RC1 they probably will, but of course it's not gauranteed. I'm writing this post on a beta stick with persistance now, so I'll probably just migrate my .mozilla folder over to the new RC1. Seems easy enough since I've not really installed that much other than zram.

Love the work this team does! Just out of curiosity, does/has Debian taken changes that MX/Antix has done and incorporated any of them?

Thank you both! So if migrating (I am aware this isn't officially supported, but the migration directions worked very nicely in my case for MX-21 --> MX 23 beta2, in any case), the best bet, after this beta period is over, is starting with the MX-21 state of the system, and migrating to the final version manually in the same fashion I tested the migration with beta 2?

In a dual boot situation with Windows...

If / is selected by default for an entire partition, will MX still work without GRUB (new option) selected?
And leave Windows part intact...

What's the syntax for updating a beta2 iso (or one based thereon) with a .delta? (Or is it a .zsync?)

I may be a stick in the mud as they say; however, i think this is for feedback for the 'real' RC1 and not the ones some of you have gotten somehow. i may be missing the point. but it seems like some these questions and thoughts could start to pi$$ off some of the devs that are working hard to get this officially released.

Yeah, thanks, I agree my questions about the migration are probably misplaced in this thread, and I apologize. On my part, it's not about having "gotten RC1 somehow" already, and instead just wanting to make sure I can test an in-place migration procedure to the actual RC1 (and eventual final version) using a path that is the most sensible. That being said, I'll keep my messages in this thread on the actual topic of RC1 feedback and check the situation on version migration somewhere else 👍

not directed at you as such - just the thread seemed to go sideways - and no not as in pinot noir.

from my limited experience - in 19 and 21 i updated all the way from rc1 - hence why i am awaiting the release. unless something goe awry - it seems like it should be doablt for 23. rc1 - rc2 - final release.

i saw a thread where someone referred to adrian explaining how to do it in 21 from beta to release. but they also said it was tedious and one had to know a medium level of linux and commmand line to do it i guess. that is all i can offer. the comment was within the last week or two. i am too old and too dumb re: command line and linux stuff to be able to sort through that so i wait for the rc1 and go from there. again not directed at you. just a generic statement and observation. :-)
