You might try one or all of the following:
1) Move your .xscreensaver file to some other location ( ie save it )
2) There should be an xscreensaver folder in ~/.cache Delete that folder
3) Verify that /etc/xdg/autostart/ still has the xscreensaver.desktop file in it.
if it still doesnt work after 1 & 2 , and 3 shows that file is there, then you also might try MX Cleanup
- Clear Apt Cache ( old files )
- Clean Folders ( check both .cache and .thumbnails )
- Old logs ( older than 30 days )
- Empty trash ( you may want to say Dont Empty here.)
- No Automatic clean.
and click apply
