Hi!
Sorry busy weekend of holiday festivities and I'm up to my eyeballs in an AV Linux ISO update..
How are these screens connected? Also on Ubuntu are you using the nVidia driver?

please don't apologize ... I'm full of thanks for every help I can get
Screen one is the laptop screen, that one's working. One is connected via VGA out, the other one is on the HDMI out. I wiped Ubuntu off my disc so I really don't know what drivers were used. Nothing I decided, it just worked so I didn't look into it, sorry.

Hi,
It looks like you have an Intel/ nVidia Video card setup there and I would guess it may need the nVidia drivers to be installed..? @Huckleberry Finn ?
Let's see if our resident helpful guide Huckleberry Finn has any advice, I don't have any nVidia stuff any more and I'm not very familiar about computers with dual Video card setups..

AVLinux wrote: Tue Dec 13, 2022 9:00 am... it may need the nVidia drivers to be installed..?
Yes, but already installed: driver: nvidia v: 390.154
Maybe you need to just play with display output using the Fn + F... key (whichever it is)
... Or, have you played with Nvidia settings?
Code: Select all
optirun -b none nvidia-settings -c :8

Would it be possible for you to download and try a Live boot of regular MX Linux (XFCE4 version)? If your monitors also are not working with 'pure' MX then we'll know it's not just limited to AV Linux and if they do work with MX then we will know if it's specific to AV Linux.. I run AV Linux on two different multi-head systems and it works as expected so I'm unfortunately a little puzzled about how to get things working for you..

Though I don't know why it does it ootb on Ubuntu but not on MX / AV :
If still not: you may (sadly) need to do it manually:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA wrote:
Mosaic mode
Mosaic mode is
the only way to use more than 2 monitors across multiple graphics cards with compositing. Your
window manager may or may not recognize the distinction between each monitor. Mosaic mode requires a valid SLI configuration. Even if using Base mode without SLI, the GPUs must still be SLI capable/compatible.

Downloading now ... will probably need help in producing a bootable USB Stick, never tried that before (although I prepared one for the upcoming new AVLinux)

You can use the "Live Usb Maker" on AV .

Yes it's no AV Linux thing ... in MX Wildflower, there is only one possible screen.
So much ado about nothing. Sorry to have taken your time. Hope you'll forget all this when I come up with the next problem
Thank you all very much.

Hello ! I have a similar problem with dual monitors.
I created a usb using persistence and remaster on my home PC with dual monitors. Everything fine
I load the AVLinux on my laptop, make some changes, save persistence and remaster, everything fine.
Now when I plug it back in my PC I have to boot using failsafe nomodeset or I get a hanging black screen after everything as been booting fine.
Only one monitor shows up and I can't seem to be able to change resolution , like on my PC AVLinux install, 1920x1080 16:9 is what it is set to and is fine.
I don't have this option when trying to change it with display running off usb on home PC, it is dead set at 1024x768 4:3 .
I am tempted to use Nvidia driver installer but I don't want to mess my perfectly fine usb AVLinux.
Is there any info about this somewhere I'm pretty sure it is a setting thing ?

In case Nvidia driver was installed, you need to use xorg=nvidia as boot parameter (on live usb only).
But, we know nothing regarding your system without the "Quick System Info".

But, we know nothing regarding your system without the "Quick System Info".
So my main problems are that I can't change resolution and second monitor is not picked up.
If Nvidia was installed, I did not do it. So my guess is no but here is the info:

No it did not work, so what I'm trying to do is bring back the parameter that made it work on my PC I just don't know what to try.
But it did work in the first place so I don't see why this would be a Liquorix problem. It's rather that now the usb is now set to load on my laptop and forgot the parameters needed to work on my PC.

Ok, but different parameters needed for different hardware. For example if you try this on another Intel card machine (that boots normally) then it will be black screen. Or if you try (let's say) xorg=nvidia on an Nvidia machine (or any other card) where Nvidia driver was not installed, then again will cause a black screen. Something like: Any medicine may be so good for you, but can be a poison for someone else.

Or if you try (let's say) xorg=nvidia on an Nvidia machine (or any other card) where Nvidia driver was not installed, then again will cause a black screen. Something like: Any medicine may be so good for you, but can be a poison for someone else.
How about I boot from a fresh install of AVLinux on another usb on my PC and post the info here ? Will we be able to determine what is the default settings that makes it work in the first place ?

That would be good. At least we'll compare a few things.

Boot parameters (other than persist keyboard etc.) are same (though they are used twice on the non-booting one)
The only difference are the usb sticks:
Doesn't boot:
ID-7: /dev/sdg maj-min: 8:96 type: USB vendor: SanDisk model: USB 3.2Gen1
size: 114.61 GiB block-size: physical: 512 B logical: 512 B type: N/A serial: <filter>
rev: 1.00 scheme: MBR
Boots:
ID-7: /dev/sdg maj-min: 8:96 type: USB vendor: SanDisk model: Ultra Fit size: 14.32 GiB
block-size: physical: 512 B logical: 512 B type: N/A serial: <filter> rev: 1.00
scheme: MBR
Since it's a persistent one: Do you remember creating any .conf files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ ?
In the meantime if there is such a file just delete it: /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Maybe you tried MX Tweak and it created such a file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf (that tells the system to use Intel instead of modesetting)
Consequently: It must be such a thing cause the persistent usb boots if you use nomodeset. If it wasn't booting no matter what you do, then we would say the culprit was the usb stick..

There is 2 files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ : 10-evdev.conf and 20-synaptics.conf
There is this one xorg.conf file in X11:
#-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
# xorg.conf file
#
# Generated by make-xorg-conf sometime around Sat Dec 24 16:19:49 EST 2022
#
# If you want to save customizations, delete the line above or this
# file will get automatically deleted on the next live boot.
#
# Command line parameters: --output=/etc/X11/xorg.conf fbdev
#-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Identifier "Device0"
Driver "fbdev"

( It forces the system to use driver "fbdev" )
Edit: Oh, that may be there (automatically) for you used nomodeset .
Just delete, then boot without failsafe nomodeset.

No did not work same thing black screen. The file is back after rebooting with nomodeset.

At least out of curiosity (though they use the same parameters), what happens if you remove all parameters and keep just
ro quiet nosplash
and boot?

As a last test (assuming it fits to the other one by size and if you don't feel lazy)
You can clone it (the non-booting one) to another one (preferably that "SanDisk model: Ultra Fit size: 14.32 GiB" or another bigger sized one which's proven to work) on live session with "MX Live Usb Maker" ("Clone running live system") , then try to boot with the new one.

Did not work but I saw 'threadirqs' upon load it seems I was not able to remove that parameter.
You can clone it (the non-booting one)
Working on it.

Probably it'll be still the same.
You can try this:
When there are no above mentioned .conf files
Reboot (saving changes and without
failsafe nomodeset)
If still not:
Grab the /antiX/
initrd.gz
from the one that's able to boot (overwrite) , try to boot without
failsafe nomodeset .
(Of course you can first copy it to somewhere else, or just rename the existing one to initrd.gz.old if there is enough free space)
(P.S. When on live session it gets under /live/boot-dev/ so: /live/boot-dev/antiX/initrd.gz )

#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Yes it's the same and after cloning I can only log in the demo account my user account seems to be disabled. I tried automatic login and password change but only demo works.
I am able to login from command line but startx can't find 'authorityx' or something.

Still the same black screen. They are exactly the same size 9.3 mb maybe there is no change there ?

Yes, probably.
Just something, somewhere is causing that.
If you like, you can try to "move" manually:
Prepare that stick again (no clone, just a new AVL stick as before), boot with, then (if you like) make it again "persist_all" ...
Finally copy-paste (overwrite) from here to there: rootfs and homefs (from old to new)
(... Then if it becomes unbootable again, there's absolutely something with rootfs (but what?) )

If I copy from the first, where can I paste in to the second without booting in it ?
Unless I'm misunderstanding, there is no way to replace root while running on it right ?

In fact, if you have any installed system, that would be the simplest (even any Linux).. You can attach both sticks like any usb sticks (data etc).. then open both /antiX/.. etc.. in file manager ...
Otherwise it may be a bit confusing: boot with the old, open the /live/boot-dev/antiX/...
and attach the other stick (open in file manager like any usb stick): /antiX/ ...
...from the live session to the attached one ...
Edit: Corrected typo (path)

To make it more clear (for everyone, especially new users, just by the way) :
When you "attach" a live usb on another system (like any usb stick) (even on Windows) they appear in /antiX/ in file manager.
But when you "boot" with that usb, you won't find them there, as they automatically get under /live/boot-dev/

Still no go. I feel that we are digging very deep to fix this which seems to be just a misplaced video driver.
I did not continue though will retry this.
EDIT: Still black screen
EDIT2: Thanks for helping me out Merry Christmas I'll be back tomorrow or late tonight ! Time for munchies, food, wine, beer...
