Having same problem and fix. Just seems to happen when on internet with LibreWolf or Tor.

Post by ronjnk » Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:00 pm
@Coastie I'm using firefox, sometimes open on several different workspaces and have thunderbird running and perhaps libre office but I can't find any link. It appears to be random. There are many sharp people on here so I'm confident we'll get it figured out. Stay tuned since this might solve your issue as well.

Thanks. Just using one work space at a time though. Multiple work spaces are above my pay grade.

If you have hardware acceleration enabled in your browser, turn it off.

Here are the instructions for disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox:

https://www.makeuseof.com/enable-disabl ... eleration/

Found that computer was also locking up when watching videos with Brave as well as LibreWolfe, Tor, and Firefox. Noticed on Brave video keep repeat last two words.

I am trying this suggestion.

Post by Huckleberry Finn » Thu Dec 08, 2022 2:05 pm
@Coastie yours will be probably ok with that (since it's not random but with browsers etc).

If you use vlc, there's also such a setting there in input/codecs tab.

Post by Coastie » Thu Dec 08, 2022 2:53 pm
So far working had a little sound problem. Sound going down but i can live with that. So far not locking up. Have VLC but think browsers play video on their own without VLC.

Post by Huckleberry Finn » Thu Dec 08, 2022 2:56 pm
Yes, I just mean if you're using vlc (itself) frequently ...

Post by Coastie » Thu Dec 08, 2022 11:08 pm
Locked up again tonight just typing an e-mail in Thunderbird. Just when I thought the only problem was watching videos had been fixed by using Brave.

Then post #8 , also have a look if there were available bios upgrades for your pc.: System locks up several times a week

So take memory out and reseat?

How do you not do memory test?

Have no idea how to do a BIOS up grade.

Can't some one do a update to fix these problems?

I have no doubt that you'll post the "Quick System Info" .

Not sure how to get "Quick System Info" if not at the bottom of my posts. Don't remember how I got that. Tried "System Profiler and Benchmark" with no success.

For clarity's sake only and because we really need to see your QSI:

We need your computer’s complete profile before we can diagnose a problem like this, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. All you have to do after running QSI is click ‘paste’ here in a new post in your thread.

I think this is it. Could only get Short System Report. Clicking on Full Report did not work.

Nope not it.... open MX Tools... Select Quick System Info ... click the button at the bottom cleverly labeled Copy for the Foum and post the results here.

In MX Tools, it is located below Utilities. You need to scroll down to find it.

The only thing below Utilities is "Format USB."

If that's the case, then you have something seriously wrong, and it is also very likely that you started with a corrupted ISO. I think that your best courses of action now would be to back up your data, redownload the ISO and burn the new copy to a usb drive, and then do a re-install.

Just btw. for everyone:

In fact it is/they're installed , just not showing in the menu (why not? : long story :) ).

At least for now you can run whichever you like in a terminal:

Code: Select all

quick-system-info-mx

Code: Select all

quick-system-info-gui

Tip: type just qui then press the tab key to auto-complete, hit Enter.
