Display Resolution Set Too High

I have installed MX 21.1 AHS x64 on my Lenovo Ideapad 5i Pro. All appears to be well except from the display resolution is set to the max 2880. This makes everything on the screen too small. My laptop's resolution is 2240 x 1400. I do not know how to set this in MX, and would be grateful of assistance.
Thank you.

In System Settings go to Hardware then Displays and Monitor. Choose Display and you can adjust your resolution there.

Then maybe there's something with the driver ... Please just start "Quick System Info" from menu, then directly right-click: paste into your post (no need to manually copy the output).

Drivers look ok. So, are there no other options close to 2240 x 1400 ?
You can also post the output of
Can also install ARandR:
Code: Select all
sudo apt update ; sudo apt install arandr -y
then start it from menu...
Sometimes the issue is solved just with another type of cable..

@pretty-pixel , there is an alternative way you can try to get everything to a viewable size by adjusting the DPI to a higher setting by going into Settings > Appearance and select the Fonts tab. Make sure you put a check in the Custom DPI setting: I have increased mine to 125 but you adjust it to what suits you.

So, there's no 2240x1400 option exactly ..
But, 2240 / 1400 = 1.6
Current one ( 2880 / 1800 ) is also 1.6
You can try these, at least will be closer to the original, keeping the ratio (1.6) :
2560x1600
1920x1200 ( However this time everything may look bigger)
Assuming these appear in Display settings.. If not try with ARandR, if still not, we'll do it manually..

... Also, if you like: Nothing to lose:
You can try the latest (available) kernel: 5.18 from "Debian Backports" tab in "MX Package Installer":
type 5.18 in the search bar,
linux-headers-5.18.0-0.bpo.1-amd64
linux-image-5.18.0-0.bpo.1-amd64-unsigned (Or: linux-image-5.18.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 , which is signed)
check both (in fact 4 items but it'll do the rest for you), click install.

If that looks confusing: 5.17 AHS kernel from MX Package Installer - "Popular Apps" tab with 2 clicks...

Hi, thank you. Both resolutions you mention appear in Display - Resolution. However, when I select either one of them, the screen turns black for a few seconds then goes back to 2880 x 1800. In other words, no change.
I have also updated the kernel as you suggested. No change.

In fact, that card was known to be problematic (didn't even load the drivers with 5.4 and before) and it was ok by kernel 5.8 ...
I just wonder if you had tried any other distros, is it the same there/ everywhere ? (Meanwhile, no need to install each time, just live session is enough to try)

Though I don't think this will cure it, nothing to lose:
"MX Tweak" from menu, "Other" tab: "Use Intel driver instead of modesetting" , check, click Apply, reboot.
P.S. You can revert back the same way.

No such file or directory is reported, when I ran the xorg.conf command. And I tried your previous suggestion in MX Tweak, to no avail.

Ok, we just need to find out what causes that, to not keep the set resolution and turn back to highest one.
If you like, you can also (just to compare) try MX KDE version on live session.

... Till then: How was it (or is it) on Windows? (Just to make it sure it's not a hardware issue, just for it doesn't keep, furthermore cannot apply other selected resolutions)
Also, what's the output of this?
P.S.
You don't have to install Windows, you can also try with
Hiren's BootCD (though it says CD you can boot it with a usb) and start "Mini XP Tool"
