We need bibletime_2.11.2-11 back in MX-21
Re: We need bibletime_2.11.2-11 back in MX-21
I already have MX-19 installed on my PC and it has the same problems, apparently there has been an update/change from Bibletime in their program that ...

I've had enough of the issue, if anyone wants to go to their forum and continue there ...

We are not going to pick up your issue and report it there, unless there is someone else wanting to use BT and willing to do the work for you.
But unless you report it in, it's definitely not going to get fixed.

The good thing about Linux is that there is always the possibility to opt for several solutions, in my case I find that the best was:
# apt-get remove --purge bibletime
# apt-get install xiphos
# apt-get remove --purge bibletime
# apt-get install xiphos

I just love Xiphos and I am usually quick to install it. I also used BibleTime and BibleEdit. All these employ the Scriptures from the Sword Project, so you cannot go wrong with either. Sadly, the later Bible translations aren't available, such as NIV or the 1983 Afrikaans. My very fresh MX Linux is still updating, so Xiphoes will follow once the system update is completed.

Just a thought, did you try to install the windows version of bibletime through wine on your MX machine? Might be useful until they correct the issue.

Go sudo apt install xiphos
You get an app that is really no different from BibleTime or BibleEdit, and it uses the same Scripture repositories. I wouldn't want to run anything Windows-like on my system, such as Wine or PlayOnLinux. That would open the door to security issues. Rather stay on the FOSS track; that is why we are here in the first place.

Please apply your mind. Think it through. Running Windows executables is placing your system at risk. Google "malware" if you still don't understand. Why accept risks when there is a FOSS alternative with the very same functionality you desire?

So, not to draw from the actual topic of this thread, with your statement you are saying that the windows version of bibletime is full of "malware". Also with your statement, you are saying that the wine (or its alternatives) software is full of "malware". Again, how so?barefoot wrote: Thu Aug 11, 2022 5:19 pm Please apply your mind.
