I just noticed a write issue on my ntfs data partition. I confirmed via Disk Manager* that it auto mounted on start, and discovered that rather than being ntfs 'unknown' as I've sometimes seen in the past, the following appeared (*you might need to install Disk Manager via MPI):
NTFS.png
I changed it from 'ntfs (Access Driver)' to 'ntfs-3g', as it always has been for me in the past, and all seems good now.
Note that this scenario does not involve padlocked files etc. as seen with the 'ntfs (unknown) issue that can sometimes crop up, and which is fixed by the same method as above, using Disk Manager to change file system type to ntfs-3g.
To be honest, I'm still using my previous MX install regularly, so hadn't noticed, the lack of padlocked files usually a quick giveaway that a ntfs partition was wrongly recognised.
regards
Mick

Ah thanks! And... it didn't work. still got the padlocks. and I did as tascoast mentions and made sure it was 'ntfs-3g'. Ah well. Not particularly worried about it, but thought I'd mention it as it seems when texchuck said:

Not sure if that was the fix or I had the luck of the draw.
I'm going with it was Luck of the Draw.

Here lately, about half the time after I run Windows, the Windows drive is read-only in MX. The other half, it's not. Go figure.

That is VERY annoying indeed
@rickyraccoon. My odds are slightly better thank goodness.
How do you solve it? I boot into windows again, and open a file on the drive. Might not even be needed, said the great DO

and just booting into it is enough, but yeah.. it's annoying for sure.

Well I don't really worry about it. I keep a flash drive in a USB 3 port in the rear for exchanging data between Windows and Linux and usually use it out of habit. I don't often have to exchange data but on occasion I'm running into old CDs that only show up right in Windows and whatever the contents I want to save I'll use that method to transfer them. I've only noticed how the Windows is behaving because when I sign in to mount my large data drive, I go ahead and mount everything in the machine before the password times out.

Windows updates will enable Fast Startup again sometimes, so after it updates you should check it again.
