'MXDE' Themes, 4K Wallpapers, Conkies

Hi,

I'm currently working on an MX LXDE Respin (working name 'MXDE Merlot') and in the process I have pulled together a bunch of resources and made some custom themes, wallpapers and Conkies and I figured there is no reason they couldn't be shared on their own in case regular MX Users might be interested.

The themes are called 'Diehard' and 'Vintage' and both come in a light and dark variant with accompanying Suru++ Icons and Oreo Mouse themes. They originated in Oomox but required further hand editing and the 'Adwaid' Openbox themes are hand customized from an existing 'Adwaid' theme on box-look.org, the Oreo Mouse cursors were compiled with my custom colors from the source code.

Screenshots showing the Themes, Icons and Conkies:

Wallpapers

This is a collection of almost 100 Wallpapers from numerous sources.. all of them are in 4K (3840x2160/2400px) resolution so the package is pretty large! Many of them I upscaled to 4K from their original smaller sizes with Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI (on my Windows 10 partition..lol) About a third of them are my own photos, a good portion of them are Dual-head and many are freebies that have been available on the web on sites like Gnome-Look etc and you may even recognize a few oldie but goodie freebie favorites in there. They cover Music, Nature, Abstract etc. and to my knowledge none of these have prohibitive licenses, many had no license at all. I'm not terribly zealous about licenses for things that are clearly made available and shared freely on major sites on the web but some people get up in arms about this stuff so you've been warned! They install to /usr/share/wallpapers/MXDE so they are all contained to their own subfolder and won't drown your existing wallpaper collection.

Conkies

Conkies are shown in the screenshots above with the exception of the 'Spotify Conky' shown below... *Note these are working Conkies on 'my' system but as always they will likely need modifying on your system.. I have posted links to 'Rock Salt' and 'SuiGeneris' Fonts

Rock Salt Font: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Rock+Salt
SuiGeneris Font: https://www.dafont.com/sui-generis.font
*also part of 'fonts-larabie' package

DOWNLOADS:

*NOTE - Be patient when installing! These are multiple double themes with double icon sets and the 4K wallpapers are even larger, depending on the speed of your system it could take a minute or more for the install to complete!
*NOTE - I've added MD5s for verification in the event you get a Browser warning about security risk.

Thank you. I definitely dig the dark themes (I'm currently using EliverLara's sweet dark theme as it the darkest I could find) and I couldn't pass up on those beautiful purple background images. :number1:

Good evening.

I have clicked over your themes link in order to get the .deb, I received and alert saying: " File not downloaded. Potential security risk"
Insecure connection, may be corrupted and tampered bla, bla I have accepted the download, but it seems the deb installer hangs.
I'm using MXFB, no idea if I can run-test your theme in .deb with my MXFB, but tried.

Give it a little time. It does eventually load.

Hi,

I will guarantee you these Debs are absolutely legit, if there were any question of that I would not post them. They are large Debs and will take some time to install depending on the speed of your system, it could be as long as a minute or so for the wallpapers package. Try again, be patient and if you are able to get them installed successfully please consider editing your post above and indicate all is well so people don't get spooked. I've put a lot of hours of work into this stuff and don't want people to get scared off unnecessarily. Thanks

Installed the rock-salt/sui_generis fonts. Adjusted the date and time. Tweaked the CPU section including my hwmon and added my weather location. Very clean looking conky.

Yes I know that these debs are absolute legit, for that reason I have accepted them. Watching how much, you the artist, defend your creature at fora it's just a brand of confidence and trust of your work. Out of my intentions to scare someone, they'll get same alert. So might be useful for the user to receive some indications like:

1. You'll receive a firefox alert, " File not downloaded. Potential security risk" that you have to confirm in order to download the (legit) file.
2. Give it a little time. It does eventually load. They are large Debs and will take some time to install depending on the speed of your system.

I was sharing my experience trying to download the deb, which seemed apparently by mozilla as risk-insecure-corrupted-failed-tampered, all together. At anytime I was scary, either my intentions were to scare somebody, better to say mozilla scaring people..from you the modest developers. Then I though that maybe I was mixing tomatoes with apples on MXFB when .deb hangs for minutes.

To me it doesn't make sense to make such interpretation of my post.
However if you feel it in that way, please tell me what part of my post do you consider I should edit.. The part where I get the alert, or just the part where apparently the deb pack hangs... or both.
I'm here to push forward, right on the same direction. Please accept my apologizes if I make you feel bad. It was not my goal.

Thank you, tomorrow I'll try again @siamhie @AVLinux

Hi!

I didn't take your post personally or as a complaint about me, you posted what happened and that is good info for people to know. My only point was that someone reading quickly would get the impression that (a) there seems to be a security concern and (b) you tried to install it and it doesn't work... That has been your experience so far and I'm sorry it has, hopefully when you try to install again just waiting will work. You don't have to say anything differently if you don't want, I was just asking once it become evident to you that the files presented no risk and that they do actually install and work if you could just add a note or edit your post to clarify. That's all I meant.. Please let me know in any case if you have success or not when you do get around to it. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm setting up my dual boot MXFB/AVL-MXE today so I didn't install the avl wallpapers because I'm re-partitioning the whole drive including a new home partition.

Just so you know the default 'Diehard' theme on AVL-MXE comes with a fair number of those wallpapers installed. This recent work with the light and Vintage themes came after it was released. You may want to install these new 'MXDE' themes and then uninstall the AVL-MXE default Diehard Dark theme.

Good evening.

Right now I have just installed MXDE Theme packages with no problem via .deb, just need to be patient with the installer.

@AVLinux I see that you have updated the post with some instructions also with the md5 validation which is a good idea. Thank you.

Good to know. I'll be able to grab the themes from AVL and add them to Fluxbox so that I have a consistent themed desktop. The only difference between the two will be the toolbar as I prefer the built-in one that comes with Flux over tint2.

Nice Conky!

For those who do not have pamixer installed on their system, you can display the current volume level by editing the $exec variable in line #62 :

original code:

Code: Select all

${exec pamixer --get-volume-human}
change it to:

Code: Select all

${exec pactl list sinks | awk '/Volume:/ {printf "%s ",$5}' | cut -f1 -d ' '}

As you will note there are many of your suggestions in that Conky already, I merely stand on the shoulders of giants...

Thank you! I'm sure your trained eye will spot some flaws that can be improved, making themes that look good and are functional across gtk2/3 and QT applications is a tricky business as you know and you did amazing work on 'Comfort'. I didn't do exhaustive gtk.css tweaks on these. I went for the obvious stuff first and am kind of hoping other people will use them and maybe give me a clue where to look for the next round of css tweaks.. If you spot something please let me know!
