Hello again,
The USB did not boot on my laptop where I created the DVD MX.iso, to try as a live disc and trial MX - this uses Ubuntu 18
However, my original DVD that I used for the trial also doesn't work as it has become scratched - back to the drawing board!
So for now it is all down to hardware faults and I will end this thread to save further time and energy being wasted. I will start again from the beginning.
Thanks for all for the advice -I will bear this in mind for the next attempt.
Regards
Shay

Merely booting a live usb shouldn't be complicated. You said your original computer runs Ubuntu. This how-to shows how to do it on Ubuntu. When I ran *buntu distros, I usually installed Unetbootin to "burn" the iso as a bootable usb drive. (That's a second option for you if Ubuntu's native tool doesn't work).

I've got a feeling your real problem will be that MX 19.4 (ahs I presume) won't boot, or won't install (or boot after install). Your Ryzen 7 might be too new (or the graphics too new). MX 19.2 ahs is the only MX that will install on my Ryzen 5/Vega 8. The software updater then updates it to 19.4. (I have never reported the problem with 19.3 & 4. Maybe if I had, it would be better.).

MX 21 is in beta testing right now. If you can accomplish creating/booting USB drives, you might try that and provide feedback. (I still need to do it with my Ryzen 5/Vega 8 ). There might not be much feedback to provide other than it doesn't work. However, there will be a "ahs" version available for testing after 21 is released. I suspect the ahs version will be what you'd really want to test (or have more hope of working).

IMO, if MX 19.2 ahs doesn't work with your new Ryzen 7 computer, then you probably want to install a working whatever on that computer, and try MX 19.4 on your existing computer which you have used Ubuntu on. Maybe make the new computer your Ubuntu computer (or try something different, like Neon KDE). Make your old computer MX.

I hadn't realised this post was still open - Apologies
My final installation USB was gained from another source and had several files that were missing off the original USB. The original was therefore incomplete. Once I used the proper set of files along with the iso it all went much better./
