You need to reboot after changing config as root. Make sure your line looks like this in the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf file:
(no blank spaces before or after)

Code: Select all

flat-volumes = no

Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

We need to know if flat-volumes is still enabled on your system.

Open for example VLC and adjust volume and see if your master volume changes. Or change master volume in panel and see if VLC volume changes.

If both change together then flat-volumes is still enabled.
If they are separate then flat-volumes has been disabled.
Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

Both are together, how do I disable if I edit in daemon.conf and nothing changes, I have exactly what you posted edited.

Ah, it should be like this:

Code: Select all

flat-volumes = no
(nothing before and nothing after - not even blank spaces)

Your line is still commented out which means it will use default setting for PulseAudio and for this version of PulseAudio that means flat-volumes is enabled.

Just adjust the line as above and reboot.

Then your applications shouldn't affect your master volume anymore.

However, it remains to be seen if it solves the Kodi problem. The Kodi problem may be related or not.

This seems to have done the trick, volumes are separate now, wasn't sure what you meant, "Your line is still commented out" anyways thanks Dreamer, thanks for taking the time to help a noob out, very kind!
