Just a warning heads up to the techs here the current update of Edge breaks Linux MX on most setups and won't uninstall freezing updates and won't even uninstall delete by terminal or by synapyic. I know side loading dev software packages is a bad idea but I figured it's from Microsoft so they would screw it up but no.

Lol, I currently use Windows half the time and I couldn't get rid of Edge fast enough and installed Firefox within the first 30 seconds of using Windows 10! It seems very uhm...err... 'curious' to want to try Edge on Linux..

it may also be an Debian issue, as such,
as Microsoft Edge Dev, does still work on Ubuntu type Linux Systems,
at least at this point, anyway.

it's actually surprisingly good, would you believe ?
- - and pushes it's "advertising model" just as much as Google Chrome,
seems to push their Advertising Model.

There is no stable or even beta version of Edge available for Linux yet. This "dev" version is exactly that, still under development and not ready for actual use yet and certainly not on production systems. It's either early alpha or pre-alpha. Those who install it on their systems can expect it to be full of bugs at this early stage of development.

Can you post the result of "apt-get -f install" or "apt-get purge edge-dev" (or whatever name the package uses?)

Just claiming that is broken for everybody it might not be so, maybe there's something specific to your system. I understand the Microsoft hate but I'm not prepared to assign guilt with such little information, is anybody else having the same problem?

I decided to see if it would work on antiX. It does manage to do basic web browsing so far, but it has a lot of dbus errors and looks like it has errors drawing to the screen.

i liked edge-chromium more than i expected when it became our default browser at work, so i installed it on my MX18 system. I use mostly seamonkey or firefox, but edge is a decent chromium variant. AFAICT it installs under /opt where it seems pretty self-contained. It allows you to use web.skype.com, so for a slightly bigger footprint than the dedicated skype app you get a full-blown alternative browser, too.

Edge in linux? You'd have to shoot me first. Honestly? MS has been trying to emulate google since 8 without telling anyone they are trying to. By trying I mean MS wants to merge with google so that the data collecting is an allinwonder "fused" pile of you know what.
I only keep a win7 install available because I'm not smart enough to get my xerox laser mfc to do color scans in linux.

I have to deal with Windorks who are completely oblivious to Linux or anything non-M$. They make up most of the global population.

I was thinking of installing a firejailed Edge browser ONLY to run M$ web applications. That way, when I get told that I have to talk on MS Teams, or that some file can ONLY come from genuine Excel, I have some options. I have to make money, and desktop Linux isn't used by people who make money and demand tech support.

My point being that I think Edge might be very good for this one purpose. I expect that Chrome and the Firefox clones won't be able to run the M$ web applications... because M$. Has anyone else been using Edge this way?

I did dabble in giving the linux version of edge a shot just for kicks on my main machine via linux mint... Yeah, it needs work.

I mean the Windows version of edge isn't so bad on my windows only (for now) HP laptop, it runs better on it than firefox or chrome.
On my main dualboot machine the jury is still out, Firefox on my main machine has been slogging as of late on Windows 10 and Chrome and edge seem equal.
Seems edge is more catered to laptops and lower power machines as there it's actually not so bad, has a little less memory and battery consumption on my windows only laptop.

Can't remember the exact syntxex on a different computer and it has been corrected by using a snapshot before the issue and deleting edge from the snapshot. I was basically edge is currupt bad and you need to re=install edge yet edge before you can continue in synaptic. Got pretty much the same error in the terminal also when trying to hard delete pretty annoying. Should have though to take some screen snaps notes sorry.

I've been using Edge dev build 92.0.873.1 for the past 7hrs at work. This morning I added Bitwarden and Ublock Origin extensions then imported Firefox bookmarks and history etc. No issues so far. I intend to continue using it until I do encounter a problem of note.

This thread appears to have been started for an unverifiable reason, I have found no other reports relating to it.
