Just want to say I love MX KDE!

It's great! It's the best distro/DE I've ever used. My thanks and appreciation once more to the devs!
Support for MX and antiX Linux distros

Thanks, it's always nice to hear that what you do is of use to somebody. I started the KDE project because I knew that there are some fans around (especially former MEPIS users) who prefer KDE environment and would like to have something set up from the start instead of having to install KDE and have a bunch of Xfce and KDE tools mixed together.Sparky wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2020 2:18 pm It's great! Nice job, Adrian! While I usually use Xfce or even IceWM these days most of the time, the overhead to run KDE is minimal, the procedure is clean, and so I have kept two instances of MX Linux on my hard drive (and two additional instances of antiX too). On top of this, I have working USB instances of everything, which were used to install each system. As a matter of fact I am running MX KDE from a live USB and it is working very well. Keep up the excellent work!Adrian wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2020 2:47 pmThanks, it's always nice to hear that what you do is of use to somebody. Just because the kernel isn’t the stock one from Debian stable, doesn’t mean the kernel isn’t stable.Herve33 wrote: Wed Oct 07, 2020 4:43 am Okay, so automatically we will have the AHS kernel, and not the Debian Stable stable kernel. Pity.
A pity?Herve33 wrote: Wed Oct 07, 2020 4:43 am Okay, so automatically we will have the AHS kernel, and not the Debian Stable stable kernel. Pity.
No. It's the same deal as debian-backports kernels. The only LTS kernels Debian supports are those for releases, such as 4.19 for Buster and 4.9 for Stretch. If a big security exploit shows up for one of our advanced kernels, we try and add the Debian fixes for our backport, too.
Which is why people love MX (all versions, especially AHS and MX-KDE), which is what this thread is about I think.Stevo wrote: Wed Oct 07, 2020 3:53 pmNo. It's the same deal as debian-backports kernels. It is my default OS. It is an older version of KDE Plasma 5 out of necessity as it is the Buster version. It also has MX Tools and MX Package Installer. It has been rock solid for me.entropyfoe wrote: Tue Oct 20, 2020 10:36 am Also an ancient Mepis fanboy here !
I have not yet done any testing of the KDE version..I guess I have fully adapted to xfce, which I really like.![]()
But, how would you say the new shiny KDE MX compares to the polish that Warren used to put onto his KDE releases?
Some people even ran his last beta for years !
Essentially equivalent. With Mepis, I had to make very few tweaks and config changes to get the OS to my liking, and the same held true for MX KDE. Once I made those changes it was like putting on a comfortable pair of old slippers.entropyfoe wrote: Tue Oct 20, 2020 10:36 amBut, how would you say the new shiny KDE MX compares to the polish that Warren used to put onto his KDE releases?
Likely to update to the version in Bullseye after that is released which I believe is Plasma 5.20.4.danielson wrote: Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:21 am MX's rendition of KDE is one of the nicest, most stable and feature filled.
Can't wait for it to upgrade to latest Plasma!

I have installed many other KDE distro with my GTX 1060 NVIDIA graphic driver card. Due to my work, I usually keep the computer running in 4 or 5 day. The other distros would get freeze problem sooner or later. But I won't meet this situation with MX KDE at this moment after a month installed. I hope the stable system will remain for the longtime.Adrian wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2020 4:04 pm I've seen some reports of freezes, but I think it was mostly due to video card/driver and not related to KDE itself.
For me I could use any DE, (as long as they have a desktop with icons -- that was one of my first bone with KDE 4 icons on desktop were an afterthought, a decent launcher and a panel) I don't mind Xfce, it's actually pretty good, but when I stated to use KDE again it was like coming back home, I really like Dolphin, I like the themes and looks of KDE animations, how I can go on top-left corner to show all the windows, etc. I don't even use all the features like different activities but it's nice to know they are there.
Been good for me too although I'm still working on how to control my VC fan speed, also mouse wheel speed while in a browser is agonizingly slow, nothing I have tried works.Sparky wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2020 2:18 pm It's great!
