What's an "OBS repo?" Duckduckgo tells me it's Open Broadcaster Software, and OBS by itself can mean Organizational Breakdown Structure or be an abbreviation for obvious, observation or observer. I can't find any mention of it as a type of software repository for Linux/Unix. Never mind, I found it: OpenSuSE Build Service or Open Build Service. Now I'm off to find out what that is and whether it can be used in Debian distros. (Edit: apparently it's for multiple distros per https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Build_Service.)

But non-Ubuntu-based distros don't generally call them PPAs.

Aren't real Ubuntu PPAs add-able with the add-apt-repository command and ppa:[ ] syntax? I read somewhere they are added to a different sources subfolder.

Since most non-Ubuntu distros don't call personal/third party repos a PPA, I feel that it is so much clearer to call them 3rd party repos.

A PPA is a subset of that, but I don't think all 3rd party repos are necessarily PPAs.

For instance, in Fedora world, they are called COPR (Cool Other Package Repo)

I'll take this discussion elsewhere as it's off-topic here and if I post in the other place the other guides may benefit too. But I'll agree to try to remember to use the term "third-party repos" instead of PPAs. Maybe the FAQ should be changed to do likewise? But again, that's off-topic.

The QSI sources section generally shows added PPAs with the word "ppa" , or the Ubuntu release name (e.g. Bionic, Focal, etc) in the relevant line, right?

FOr those that don't have those signs, I would just call them 3rd party repos.

Getting back on topic, can I request for the OP that whoever maintains MXPI add the OBS/3rd-party/whatever repo for Ungoogled Chromium to Popular Apps/Browsers so it adds that repo to their apt sources then installs the browser, just like the entries for Brave and Chrome do? Thanks.

I support that request. Using MX-19 I tried adding the repo in the terminal. It seemed to work, but the repo didn't show up in Synaptic. The ungoogled-chromium packages had arm64 in the name despite I had added the correct Buster repo. Maybe the packages (even amd64) are built from arm source?

Then I tried to download and install ungoogled-chromium amd64 deb directly. That also fails in Gdebi. Unnamed dependency is not satisfied.

I'll look at it for MXPI, but this seems to me to be a weird project.

Me too. Especially since Chromium is a Google product.

I probably don't actually understand what I'm requesting. What I think I'm requesting is that Ungoogled Chromium be added to MXPI Popular Apps, Browsers the same way that Brave Browser was added not long ago: installing it from MXPI Pop Apps adds Brave's 3rd-party repo then installs Brave using their packages. Maybe OBS repos work differently? Can you suggest the best way for people to install it without it being added to MXPI?

that's what I thought you meant, and that is what I'm going to look at.
