Pierre .. Just out of curiosity, have you tried -- A Morse Trainer using the Koch method - G4FON? http://www.g4fon.net
It has so many neat options .. Character speed, word speed, qsb, qrn, qrm and etc. I think it's the best of the best. Not sure it will work in Linux / Wine though?

they all work just fine, and all are in the same ./wine bottle ( archive ) for easy restore .. ..

Plenty of CW on the bands to justify learning it. It might not be as full of signals as the 1950's but certainly CW is still loved and used, many people use it *exclusively*. A resurgence of it's popularity and realization of it's utility is ongoing among even younger hams who want to learn it for what it is, not because they are forced into it for the license.

I myself have come full circle from the "no-code tech" in the mid-90s to an Extra class, all without code but now I am also in the learning stages. I still work fulltime and spread my endeavors over many things so it's coming slow. I know all the characters, now it's just practice practice. Copying is the hard part.

As far as running apps in Wine, I'm pretty new to really using Linux fulltime. For simple programs not needing interfaces, i.e. G4FON, I could see no issues, but I can imagine some and therefore have a bit of trepidation about trying anything that might need usb interfacing. But, without experience, this could only be a ghost in my own mind.

I'm fairly amazed with MX Linux. Previous, and I do want to give a shout out to SwampRabbit, I had the repo team here repackage WSJT-X program in linux native to MX-Linux. My problem was I liked to use a companion 3rd party program called "GridTracker" along with it that would log my contacts to QRZ.COM or any of the other logging apps out there.

Well, It never occurred to me to just try the windows versions of my favorite ham apps in Wine. My experience with wine and linux was from many many years ago when Ubuntu was new. Comm ports and USB ports were not very easy in Wine back then.

I said to myself, what the heck, and gave it a go. Works great. No fussing. Between pulse audio using a $2.37 "usb sound" device, really just a dongle with a/d and d/a converters to feed a usb port, and my rigblaster pnp, for rig control, everything worked with just finding the right selections. Grid Tracker works. The trick is you have to use them both in Wine or if you can manage to get both in linux, both there, as GT will look for the WSJT-X program in the default directories. So okay, a little Wine solved that problem.

MX-Linux made it work, the first time. No command line tweaking, everything setup in gui. Amazing. I'm getting closer and closer to deleting my windows partition and going full bore MX-Linux onto a an SSD with the 1TB HDD setup for media/documents only.

WINE versions before about 1.7 or 1.8 did not support all the RS-232 control lines. They fixed that a long time ago and I think around version 3.0 they changed serial ports and how they are detected. I haven't had any problems with USB serial dongles in a long time.

It has been quite a while. :) I'm glad to see this environment, with Wine or just native, come so far.

I just tested in wine on MX-19 and it installs, runs and works.

it does seem that a New Release - LOG4OM V2 Next Gen is now available:

NB: like the previous version - - it does require the pre-installation of Microsoft .NET Framework
- - the old version requires V4.6.1 or higher
- - the new version requires V4.7.2 or higher
+ all the previous versions of Microsoft .NET Framework - - also an pre-requset

it's an good program .. takes a bit to Install it in ./wine, though.

Good news .. I'll give it a go later. I'll need to install wine again. I'm having a quite a time getting MX-19 working correctly.
