Repology shows Sid has 1.6.2+git, which is our preferred source for pre-debianized source files:

https://repology.org/project/icewm/versions

That site is really handy.

Note that version of IceWM causes some issues with icons on antiX.

Thank you for the information ... on .svg icons or .png icons or both ?

Default papirus menu icons (png)

... I use Papirus .svg icons, so I will see.

Edit:
... Seems to be an alpha channel issue (with some png, and maybe svg too)
https://github.com/bbidulock/icewm/issues/392

Edit2: Tested: In fact I have this issue (alpha channel /alpha threshold) for some .svg icons too, but only few (on my eepc x32) mostly into the toolbar, less into the menu. Not very annoying with the small eepc screen. I hope than the next version of IceWM will be OK.

Same issue on VirtualBox MX19-x64 & IceWM 1.6.2 (mostly for .png icons in the toolbar, but for some .svg too)

In the meantime, MX 19's default IceWM is now the backport in the antiX Buster repo:

Hello,
Request package to have the IceWM version 2.1.1 into MX with the: Imlib2 image rendering engine

# since version 2.0 icewm
We add support for the Imlib2 image rendering engine as an alternative
for the gdk-pixbuf-xlib rendering engine. The Imlib2 image rendering
engine is now the default, but this can be set at configure time.

With into ..../icewm-2.0.0/src/CMakeLists.txt
Modified to have the .svg icon compatibility working, here for me:
...
# option(CONFIG_LIBRSVG "Support SVG format icons" off)
option(CONFIG_LIBRSVG "Support SVG format icons" on)
...

Installed successfully, now will test.
BTW, working on customization of ICEWM, you can check screenshot.
Lots to learn and lots of things to fix and customize, some basic stuff is running fine.
Hope it will land up well and maybe a respin for retro PCs? ;)
