Is this a Dell laptop? They often need to have the nouveau driver driver blacklisted at boot, or you do get the Black Screen of Death at boot. You don't need that after installing the Nvidia drivers, but it then may need another boot cheat to get working correctly.
It’s an HDMI Republic of Gamers gaming laptop. However I’ll look into if that’s a viable solution

Try removing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. IIRC some.folks have an issue where the xfce desktop doesn't load up correctly when the basic xorg.conf is present.
Well I got rid of it. The wallpaper and the time appears. No mouse or anything else.

If you can boot from the MX USB, run MX Tools/Quick System Info then simply right-click and paste into a reply. No need to copy/paste, just paste. Quick System Info copies the output to your clipboard for you, already formatted for posting in the forum.

How did one set it again that another boot option becomes the default? Just so Apoc knows.. on Android right now so I can't check.
