I found this recent post from solus, which also mentioning MX from g+ post, which is posted 4 hrs earlier. I can't verify truth but I think it should be reported to community for a discussion.

I think that this is a red herring. Searches for "linux tracker compromised" and "linux tracker malware" produced no hits.

Possibly not, since one of the Devs has seen such material as well.

We are looking into it.

Can we just provide a direct link to their torrent file to bypass that, or point to the archive.org torrent instead?

Below are the direct download links for each torrent vs. the "Stream a torrent" link that we are using on the mxlinux.org page

Code: Select all

http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page=torrents&category=2177
...This link may be the source of the problem...can we post the direct download links shown below to somewhere that is appropriate?

The links below do not display the linuxtracker.org web page...they just download the file...

32-bit

Code: Select all

https://linuxtracker.org/download.php?id=b255967f8498c7992c54d665e4d6788a8986e439&f=MX-18_386.iso.torrent&key=0
64-bit

Code: Select all

https://linuxtracker.org/download.php?id=5a518c24261fba8dbe8741bb6c707875e6730199&f=MX-18_x64.iso.torrent&key=0

We could post the direct links but the issue is should we continue to use them? We have over 100 mirrors now... we can use archive.org, why associate ourselves with such a host if they misbehave, maybe we can even publicly dissociate from them and denounce their behavior if this is what they do (again, didn't look into the matter to verify the truth of the matter, and I do use adblockers)

I can't argue against your reasoning, Adrian. Using linuxtracker.org is a quirky process and I like archive.org. Last time I tested archive.org it was fantastically quick, so I have no objection to dropping linuxtracker.

https://newtrackon.com/ monitors tracker uptime and provides a list.
Clicking to sort by uptime column, I recognized (I recall having used) these 3, across years, with good result

udp://tracker.opentrackr.org:1337/announce
https://1.tracker.eu.org:443/announce
http://2.tracker.eu.org:443/announce

Here's a new (new to me) https://linuxpeer.org/distros.php and https://linuxpeer.org/faq.php
site dedicated to providing a list of linux distro iso files + maintaining an eu -based seedbox

Not that I actually get a vote in the matter, nor should I; but, I have to say as a non-dev I agree with @stevo and others who recommend using archive.org. So far as I know they are above reproach. Heck, I'm even moving piles of my genealogical data from my Dropbox account to archive.org, for others to access. The Internet Archive (archive.org) is cheaper for me and faster for others. Just sayin'
