This thread is for feedback on the corrected and updated version just posted. We are interested in any

--corrections
--changes
--additions
--revised graphics (some are kind of dull, others now wrong)
--help with changes for Xfce 4.12, much of which will be in Section 3 I believe

Thanks to everybody for their help on this project!

OK, this is kind of related to the new manual.

At the bottom of the download page here: http://www.mepiscommunity.org/download-links

the reader is referred to a link for the PAE vs non-PAE explanation.

This link is now broken and should be changed to point to section 2.1.1 of the new manual.

Man, I thought we had updated all the links. Thanks!

There is a complete revision about to come out, and I will make sure that that link points to the right place.

EDIT: changed for now to: http://www.mepiscommunity.org/user_manu ... ection-2.1

Reminder to self (found when going through rc2 menu): 1) it is lm-sensors, not lm_sensors and 2) it is installed now by default

Done

There are still a few typos to fix:
2.2.1 bandwith
3.8.3 un-check

3.3.3
figure 32 'grafix/3.3.4 Fonts.png' is missing

3.8.3
last bullet before figure "got to Background" should be "go to Background"

3.3.3
figure 32 'grafix/3.3.4 Fonts.png' is missing
Now that's an error! I uploaded the missing file, and it should work now.

I don't understand why it is not there, b/c I first cleared out the online grafix folder, then copied the contents local one I had been using during development with Ctrl-a, and pasted it into the online folder. I knew the local copy of the Manual had all images correctly, because I had gone through and checked, so I never thought my upload process would result in one being missing.

This thread's been up for 9 days and only 4 corrections?

Not too shabby.

I think people are tired of looking at it!

The test will come as people start to use Xfce 4.12, because a lot of the Manual (Sections 2-3) has been changed to accommodate the new DE. Right now almost no one is actually looking at the content.

I look at it every day, but perhaps not closely enough. The error 'bandwith' reported by Henry has been there since early January and I
didn't see it. :bagoverhead:

OK, all errors noted up to here now corrected in online copy, various other edits and insertions made, new images for default Desktop and Screen 7 of Installer provided, and images for Help sections dropped to bottom. Refresh the screen to see version number 20150317.

3.3.1 Resolution. First para, third sentence sort of tails off.

I just want to comment on one thing I like very much about the html version.
I like the fact that it is all on one very large page.
Once completely downloaded, it can be saved to one file (plus one directory of pics and html stuff).
Makes it easy to view on a PDA.
Today is the first time I have looked at the html version as I always downloaded the pdf version.

You also have it already installed by mx-docs in /usr/local/share/doc...

I knew that. I was just saying I can view it on a PDA which I cannot install MX-14 on.

When skimming through the manual, I noticed this in Section 2.3.1:
Software licenses

Many proprietary programs for Windows are not installable without a license key or CD key. Unless you are set on doing away with Windows permanently, make sure you have a license key for any program that requires it. If you do decide to reinstall Windows (or if dual-boot setup goes awry), you will be unable to reinstall these programs without the key.

If you cannot find the paper license that came with your product, you may be able to locate it in the Windows registry, or using keyfinder software (example link below).
But, I could not find links to any type of key finder program in the manual.

ProduKey from NirSoft is a free utility that I've used can get Windows keys in case they were needed for a reinstall (and it works with Win 8.x, too).

It looks like it can also give you keys for some of the other Microsoft products like Office 2003, 2007, 2010 (see the supported Products List section on the ProduKey page). You have to scroll down to near the bottom of this page to get to download links for it:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

I also see links to commercial products near the top of that page. For example, this one:

https://recover-keys.com/

There are many of those types of utilities available (some free, some commercial).

Anyway, I was just skimming through the manual after noticing this thread, and I couldn't find the example link to keyfinder software mentioned in that section.

Thanks. That's very old (at least 8 yrs) copy, actually, and I did not check it against current Windows installations. The links got lost somewhere along the way...
