synaptic repositories list is empty.
empty-synaptic.png
Is this related to (a bug in trixie)?
MX 25 utilizes the new(ish) deb822 format for sources information
.Are we waiting for debian to fix this?

its a known issue, and I doubt debian fixes it at this point.

it will work for anything still in the older *.list format.

I've used claws-mail for managing my e-mails for over 15 or 16 years now, but I've found that in MX 25 KDE the Claws-mail system tray icon is missing in Wayland. I switched to X.org & it's there. Also the "Notifications" icon is just a blank.

I'm the opposite these days. The last couple of years, light colored backgrounds hurt my eyes which is why I always show dark colored screenshots.
Lol, as a Distributor that's an unwinnable scenario...

Not entirely. First thing I do with any distro is change to it's dark theme if it's available.
If not, I can always install a dark theme. Both parties are ..... :woot:

Our apt updater/notifier launches synaptic. Should it launch an alternative apt/synaptic like widget then if synaptic will stay broken for trixie?
Or is there a plan to provide a deb822 format to .list translator to fix ours?

I believe the new Trixie MX-Updater defaults to MXPI, or on my test ISO's I don't see Synaptic listed in the popup by default anyway.. In the past year MXPI added a lot of Synaptic-like functions so I don't even miss it anymore personally.

Synaptic works except for it's Settings > Repositories function, could we maybe look through the source and disable that function?

Or is there a plan to provide a deb822 format to .list translator to fix ours?
'inxi -r' kind of does that already, it displays something that looks like the traditional *.list format, though the line above will show that it's from a .sources file instead of a .list file

it stays at 100% despite desktop set to 250%. I had applied the "Apply Plasma Settings" under "login screen (SSDM"

This worked in MX 23.6 and login screen was in same scale as the regular desktop

If I'm not wrong, the known issue of synaptic not handling deb822.sources properly, would be kind of "mitigated" by using mx-repo-manager, which should still support the known one-line format
and at least a sub-set of deb822-sources format
kmathern wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 1:25 pm Synaptic works except for it's Settings > Repositories function, could we maybe look through the source and disable that function?
The new "MX updater" offers within the right-click menu to launch mx-repo-manager, which may help to adjust repo sorces-lists with both one-line ".list" and deb822 ".sources" format

Interesting observation. OTOH, with the MX-25-beta1 ISO's, where synaptic is installed, - which is not in KDE - the option to choose either synaptic or MX Updater's "View and Upgrade" window is with the settings editor to choose. What might be new for "MX Updater" compared to previous release, is that the middle-click - for a reason - kept active, and launches MXPI, if installed.
