Not during beta testing...it's an expected part of the process. This is irritating from an end user's perspective.
MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
LA failed for me early this morning, but I switched to Salt Lake City and all went smoothly.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
On MXFB b1 (systemd) updated.
I'm starting a professional conference paper on a new machine that has a very sensitive touchpad. So I enabled touchpad-indicator in startup but the package is not in Debian. And now I seem to remember that @Stevo got it for us before from the Dev's repo.
Will make a package request and then if successful (both inits?) will ask to have it included in the build.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
VirtualBox 7.1.12_Debian
MX25 (LUKS encrypted)
KDE: 6.3.6
Kernel: 6.12.43+deb13-amd-64
using 8GB RAM
This is my personal recommendation and quick look and feel (UX) to give a feedback how user will see a new Operating Systeme if they want to switch to mx linux and see the distribution first time.
Installation:
seems that there is no information to „eject the Source Media /ISO/DVD and Reboot the system“,
after installation into the virtual machine. At the first try VB booted the Install media iso, later from SSD.
GFX recommendation:
- For the first feeling i would choose "Nuvole" as the default wallpaper.
- Default Breeze Dark (i think the most people would prefer Dark as well, they would be happy)
- Default Conky Style - MX-APInfo-debianUpdate-coloursMod (maybe modified to top-right) - just to have more information for the first start, without searching
- The Oxygene Cursor looks awesome
Issues:
- sometimes the numpad seems not active when popup for root passphrase is needed, solution: on/off numpad manually
- no scrollbar when resize „Desktop Folder Setting“ Window (Tab „Icons“)
- i would like to see the start menu subfolders list is not over the taskbar
- i got a distorted preview in the taskbar hovering „system setting“ task, and it keeps distorted
- Dolphin ARROW UP would be nice as Default (navigate into root folder workflow stuck)
- i really don't know who is playing mahjongg but i uninstalled all games at the first run, so i would uninstall more stuff
- mx cleanup has a time out that closes a window. if i want to remove wifi drivers and just type „Y“ for accepting the deletion but no ENTER...after a time the popup closes without any action or warning – would be nice to have SIZE data available as well
- sometimes i got a flying submenue in the start menu when hovering faster over the app categories, so they seems disconnected from the startmenue
- „Brightness and Color“, well its „Brightness and Night Light“ – Brightness affecting Conky Lines, that dissappear below 100% brightness
- MX Tool Brightness Systray (xrandr) is titeld as MX TWEAK and has no Live-Preview-Effect on the Desktop, SAVE has no effect.
- a saved QSI.txt in „Downloads“ can not open via KATE, Libre Office or Okular from „choose application“ popup. ERROR: org.kde.kate was not found; please enter a valid path to an executable program. But i can open Kate and drag and drop the file into it. Also i can open the File in Kate from Desktop
Discover general:
to see installed Games/ or other Categories Discover has no option to quick access the category of installed apps, also i can not search for categories, so if i want to uninstall mahjongg i need to search the word or scroll for ever,

I maintain 5 MX Linux installs for others and none of us like dark themes. I even alter the css code for Whisker to change the black borders to light grey.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
Hi all, I'm using the latest version of MX 25 beta and I am getting the following error when trying to run mx-snapshot:
Let me add the following for context. I created a snapshot from a Lenovo Thinkpad (I no longer have this machine) which had 8 cores and installed the image on a Dell Latitude which is a dual core machine. I was trying to create a new back up from the Dell Latitude machine and got the above error. I'm not sure if this is a bug in the beta version or I just need to change the setting somewhere regarding the cores.
I did try and change a line in the following file:
/home/user/.config/MX-Linux/mx-snapshot.conf
It had a line where cores=8 and I tried to change it to 1, 2, and 4. None of them worked. Also restarted the machine after making the changes. Still didn't work.
I would have made a different thread for this question but one I could not find the button to make a new thread and two since this could be a possible bug I posted it here.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
Post #536 is solved. I usually run everything through the terminal including mx-snapshot. I deleted the mx-snapshot.conf file and ran the GUI of mx-snapshot and it worked. I guess the only way to update/recreate the mx-snapshot.conf file properly is through the GUI.

I'm the opposite these days. The last couple of years, light colored backgrounds hurt my eyes which is why I always show dark colored screenshots.chrispop99 wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 7:01 am+1Eadwine Rose wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 6:54 am Don't make assumptions on dark.
