Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread

And...it kinda' works: I get the familiar Plank doc, but...it only stays open with the Konsole session open (his command has it running in the background, with "plank &"). If I close Konsole, then Plank disappears.
So, I closed the Konsole session, and Plank remains on the desktop

But, the following remains true:
Also, Plank does not work normally:
When I open a new application, it DOES NOT appear in the Plank dock, which would normally then allow me to select to keep it in the dock permanently or not.
So, I would say this is really NOT A VIABLE SOLUTION

Here's the slew of error messages I got back after running the above command:

I see that more and more error messages are being added to that open Konsole (Terminal) session. Here's some more that were just added:

Here's an image of the Plank dock in the Wayland session (for some reason it opens with 2 Thunderbird icons. I deleted one of them):

But, again, Plank does not work normally:
EDIT (See strikeout section above):
- It is running via the open/running Konsole (Terminal) session
- Icons of running applications are not added to the dock
- Unclear how to add applications to the dock-- need to somehow "hard-code" them in
Bottom-Line:
If, like me, you really want Plank on your brand-new MX25-KDE, boot into an X11 session.
Unless...someone can find a more elegant solution...

Could it be something was left behind from the former system having both sysv and sysd that was no longer needed on the pure sysd that is in use? (Remember, I don't know diddly squat about it, just wondering out loud)

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
there is plan in the systemd project to remove systemd-sysv support, part of what supplies the "drop in sysVinit replacement" (LOL), IE the ability to use the init.d scripts when a service file is not present.Eadwine Rose wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 11:11 amEadwine Rose wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 2:52 am

so not a bug. irritating, but not a bug. we actually only have a few apps that would even care at this point, as most things in the debian repo already have service files. I'm pretty sure you can delete everything in the /etc/init.d folder from an installed system and still have a working system if you are running systemd.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
I don't know if this has been addressed:
Running Live USB, MX25-KDE, Wayland session.
When waking from sleep:
Unreadable screen:
Lots of colors all over the screen
No decipherable icons or text
Saw some movement in the colors/pixels when hitting the lower left corner
Typed (blind) "Ctrl-Alt-T" to bring-up a Terminal (couldn't see it, though)
Typed (blind) "sudo shutdown -h now"
Assumed it would ask for password
Typed "demo"
Shutdown initiated, and system shut down !!!
So, is this a known problem with the Live USB (waking from sleep) ?

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
There is a flatpak application called SaveDesktop that can do that.oops wrote: Sat Sep 27, 2025 7:56 pm One question, I am a newbee on the DE KDE Plasma , how you can save your setting and manage your desktop customizations in KDE ?
By hand, or via a tool like this one:
https://store.kde.org/p/1298955/
Description: This is a widget to save and manage your desktop customizations, you can save your current desktop customization and it will list all your past saved ones, you can restore the customization with just one click, also you can export/import customization to other machines.

I have also reinstalled hardinfo2 ... and with the new version it is fine, I have now for: cat /etc/group | grep hardinfo2 --> hardinfo2 : x: 987: (instead 1001 or more into the users group area)
Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
Thank you for the info. dreamer, until now I did it ~manually (via grsync) for KDE Plasma 6 (some hidden folders into my home user). I will try SaveDesktop.dreamer wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 12:25 pmThere is a flatpak application called SaveDesktop that can do that.oops wrote: Sat Sep 27, 2025 7:56 pm One question, I am a newbee on the DE KDE Plasma , how you can save your setting and manage your desktop customizations in KDE ?

An other issue here for me is:
When I make an mx-snapshot from a VirtualBox virtual machine, and from MX25 KDE wayland, the snapshot is done correctly, except that when restarting the virtual machine, the boot process crashes at a systemd "samba service", and the virtual machine can no longer restart. And I have to do each times a new installation of MX25KDE in virtualbox.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
beta users will probably have to manually update that one due to an epoch used on a previous update. Remove and reinstall hardinfo2 is the easiest way.siamhie wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 9:08 am Hardinfo2 held back during upgrade in nala. (MX-25 fluxbox beta systemd)
