MXFB on strong Personal laptop with systemd:
In trying to find a LO file I'm working on, I used Menu > Other > Recent files and clicked the Update link for the first time since install. Will post crash log later once I find it, but quickly:
1) tint2 closed
2) dock went from hidden on R margin to visible in upper left corner
3) nothing else visible on desktop
Ctrl Alt Bksp to log back in, where all normal and Recent files populated.

I wanted to test MX25-KDE-BETA1 with X11 (not Wayland), because 'I Loves Mees My Planks', and I tried installing Plank with the default Wayland session.
Although MXPI (both Popular Apps, and another try with Enabled Repos) responded that Plank installed successfully, when I tried to run it on the Wayland session, the Plank icon in the panel (default, bottom) "bopped" up and down, as if to show that it was about to open, but never opened, and then just disappeared.
So, it looks to me like, at least just running on the live USB, Plank will not work with MX25-KDE, using Wayland.
Like I said in my previous post, Plank installs and runs just fine on MX25-KDE, but using the X11 desktop session.
Can anyone confirm that Plank will not work on the KDE Wayland session?

Hi everyone,
hi dolphin_oracle,
hi fehlix.
Tested a workaround on an installed system about grub 2.12 not showing on some systems.
It works, and i can see grub graphical, but the price are few seconds more waiting for grub.
In my opinion the users with grub 2.12 not showing should be addressed to
uncomment GRUB_TERMINAL=console in /etc/default/grub and update grub (it works).
The best would be a checkbox to do it in mx tool "boot options",
to wait with style that they solve the regression of grub 2.12.
In details, my thought:
- it is not urgent, after 5 seconds mx25 starts loading anyway
- who desire a grub menu wants a chance to solve problems, graphical or console is not important
- to implement the tested workaround and stabilize it, should cost to all mx user some seconds, unfair
- maybe, one day, they will fix the regression
(If someone curious, it is again from:
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?65503#comment0
works with my installed system... (sleep .1) but costs few seconds.
When grub-files-mx is updated you will be requested to chose if keep the version you edited.
If you choose not to keep nothing will change until next update grub.)
I'll soon come back to grub console.

Re: MX 25 Beta 1 Feedback thread
thanks for checking. I have to disagree on the time cost though. our workaround is just echoing a space to the console. you just get a cursor while the menu loads instead of a blank screen. **edit*** oh the workaround you posted included a sleep command. yeah, we didn't do that.re-user wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:09 am Hi everyone,

and we have to have something that works on read-only live systems, where the user might not be able to edit the file or provide a boot option. and the timeout there may never expire, as a key press will disable it (actually also true of installed systems).

Re: Plank and Wayland session (viewtopic.php?p=833404#p833404), a number of websites say that Plank cannot run in Wayland; so, choose X11 at login screen.
This website/post says that Plank can be run with Wayland, but need to install one package, and set an Environment variable to "trick" Plank:

Here's what the guy says:

and...There are two things you'll have to do. First, make sure you have XWayland installed. In Debian it is as simple as running sudo apt install xwayland. This is a little extra package that makes it possible to run X11 applications with Wayland.
I'll give those a try, and report back.Second, you must overrule Plank in detecting it environment. With the following command I could successfully run Plank and so far I could not make out any differences with respect to X11:
env XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11 GDK_BACKEND=x11 plank &
