thanks. those things should be indentical between the standard and ahs isos, but it certainly gives a place to check.

can you give me the

Code: Select all

cat /proc/cmdline
for the one that fails? (I presume both are unencrypted)

Code: Select all

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-6.12.48+deb13-amd64 root=UUID=268463b1-414d-4f7f-90e8-c0a1990a642a ro quiet splash resume=UUID=268463b1-414d-4f7f-90e8-c0a1990a642a resume_offset=49760256
Chris
did the working installation happen to have a swap partition rather than a swap file?

wdscharff wrote: Sun Sep 28, 2025 7:31 am I can't understand it, problems with the NVidia driver depending on the init system in Fluxbox.

With SystemD, no problem with the 550.xxx and also not with the 555.xxx (AHS).

With SysVinit, the driver seems to install without problems until a reboot, and then nothing works. Black screen, no login screen, no console to log in, nothing, only a physical cold boot via the power cable.

other topc: It's extremely irritating (but it's the same with MX 23), when I save a QSI as text on the PC, and when I click "Open directory with file manager," I'm offered zzzFM as the file manager. I haven't installed that since MX 19. I never noticed it before because I've never used the function :)
so apparently whoever did the german de_DE translation strings translated "file manager" into "zzzFM" for some reason. the english string is just "Open Folder".

will look into it, but the button should just open up the default file manager despite what the text says.

Two quick questions: Those running MX 23.6 (any flavor) will have to reinstall when MX 25 comes out? Also, how can I fully back up my present system so that I can reinstall it later on on the same PC (files, software & everything)?

Many thanks in advance.
It is always the general advice of MX team that a fresh install is best. In particular, for users of MX23 KDE, it is especially advised that you should make a clean install of MX25-KDE, because there is a major change from Plasma 5 to Plasma 6.

To that end, the MX tool called User-Installed-Packages was created to help the user subsequently install back most of the applications they had previously on the old install. You should of course first backup your own files, data, media and app configs (don't copy over Plasma 5 configs!). There are many other forum threads on the best way to install afresh and the best way to back things up.

This thread needs to be focused on bug reporting of the beta 1.

did the working installation happen to have a swap partition rather than a swap file?
No; all tests used a swap file. They were all done using the automatic mode of the installer apart from selecting the 'Hibernate' option.

Ok. last question. did you happen to delete the default xfce4-session.xml buried down in ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-per-channel/ at some point?

going to set up a batch of test. I think their must be some interaction I'm not aware of, because all the option in tweak does is flip a switch in xfconf to display hibernate.

No.

I've just done fresh installs on four different pieces of hardware. The only thing I did outside of leaving everything at default was to check the hibernate option Two of them worked, two of them didn't.

QSI for each attached. No idea if this is any help. Will be out later, but available for more testing in 15 hours time.

@dolphin_oracle

On a machine where the hibernate button did not appear, that xfconf box was checked.

Probably: transfex's translation memory will populate new untranslated strings with whatever was found on antiX transifex .
And translators may focus mainly on untranslated strings, so those auto-populate translations may stay un-reviewed, until someone spotted those.
