I know you advise to install Beta ISO in either a live USB or virtually. I have been using MX-25 Xfce ahs BETA as a daily system from the first install. There are no problems, it is upgraded in both MX and Debian and daily I use the terminal to keep them current. See below my QSI.

For picom to work, you need to create a user configuration file
You can use the picom.sample.conf file (in /usr/share/doc/picom/examples) as template --> copy it to ~/.config directory and rename it to picom.conf .
Picom backend will default to xrender, but if needed it can be changed (in line 212) to 'glx' or xr_glx-hybrid'
Change all other settings to your hearts content.

I have set picom to start in daemonized mode ; the entry in ~/.fluxbox/startup as follows:

Honestly, I'm faced again with the same issue after installing MX 25 beta 1: Although I have Secure Boot off, It can't find a bootable device. Am I doing something wrong?

I was able to install MX 25 Beta1 on another laptop.
Does that mean that my hardware faces issues?
It's a ten-year-old Dell Inspiron 5558.

@Jerry3904: one correction to my post: for picom v/12.0 the backend must explicitly be chosen (as declared in your error message too).
For MXFB25 (picom version 12.0) I would suggest to set it to the default value:

Quick question. On the beta release announcement blog post, it says, "At this time we intend the betas to update through final."

Does this mean that, unlike previous MX versions, you will now be able to install beta 1 and then update all the way to the full stable v1.0 release of MX25? (As soon as v1.0 comes out of course.)

I created extrox-25 basing MX-25 beta1 xfce sysvinit ahs. (This is no release until MX reaches RC or Product version)

1. Different window style - When applied "Orchis" window theme from xfce-look.org, Different window style be mixed. (MX25 only, MX23 fine)
Left window is correct state, Right window is incorrect state (looks too old style).
Incorrect style are MX-Tools Suite only.

@Freja I have noticed the same issue with the mx-ease themes, qt6 based apps do not display correctly.
Both Orchis and mx-ease use the pixmap engine, which comes in the package gtk2-engines-pixbuf.
For some reason this package is not installed in the MX-25 xfce beta (it is in the fluxbox beta).

Try installing gtk2-engines-pixbuf and qt6 apps (eg. MX tools, featherpad) should then display correctly.

Standard XFCE (not AHS and not the SysV init) iso:
Installed swiftly and effortlessly on my UEFI Secure boot Hewlett Packard laptop.
Regular install using whole NVMe drive, no encryption nor hibernate (my choice).
Working fine so far, good work Devs, thank you.
I love the wallpaper selection too, but my only question is why the background chooser defaults to the XFCE backgrounds directory?

@Ghost67 I added symlinks to all the artwork wallpapers to the /usr/share/backgrounds/xfce folder, so at least the selection shows up for everyone. Thanks!
