KDE -- first, at the login screen it takes a very long time to recognize my mouse (usb dongle) and keyboard (wired) -- I just have to sit there and wait until I can type something.

Second, I thought I would install the liquorix kernel from the package installer since KDE I believe is ahs, there were errors returned and now when I install anything, I get the following:

I think the 6.15 kernel is probably installed okay, it was when I checked in a vm, though I had the same dkms "noise" while installing it.
You can check with

Code: Select all

dpkg --audit
if it doesn't return anything, things are probably fine.
edit: took another look at the the log, you might need to run update-grub

If your system doesn't have a wifi device that uses one of the dkms drivers, using mx-cleanup before installing the kernel should stop the dkms error messages.

re-user wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 11:13 am Hi everyone,
little but important problem here tested with:
MX-25_Xfce_beta1_x64.iso
MX-25_Xfce_sysvinit_beta1_x64.iso.

Seems to be a Mac specific problem:

live usb stops with a blank screen and a fixed cursor (no "welcome to grub", and no grub).

-tested with 3 imac and a macbook (2009-2011)

-the same usb boots without problems on an old little atom

-mx-23.5 (on the same usb) grub works well.

I'm too user to guess but I suspect something with the theme of grub.
I had a problem on the same imacs that under previous ubuntu can display grub only if "console" attribute given to grub.
Same imacs have no problem to display mx-23.5 grub and related theme.

I can only attach QSI produced with mx-23, i limit it to 2 imacs:

Hope this info helps
thank you for the output. do you know if those imacs are 32 bit UEFI? we did rebuild the 32 bit UEFI stuff in live, and it could be missing some modules or something for macs.

from your mx23 stick

Code: Select all

cat /sys/firmware/efi/fw_platform_size
would tell us.

thanks!
Same result for 2009 and 2011 imac:

Code: Select all

$ cat /sys/firmware/efi/fw_platform_size
64
I forgot mention that also an attempt with debian trixie give same problem.

(thank you for giving us mx linux)
thank you. Not sure what is going on there but thanks. at least its not the 32 bit efi stub.

I installed Xfce (non-ahs) in VirtualBox.
All windows had about 3 or so rows of different colored pixels around the outside of the windows within the shadow area. Default theme and several others were like this.

I thought maybe the shadow was broken because of VB graphics driver. I went to Xfce window manager tweaks compositor and disabled all shadows. Still happened. Went to Xfce Appearance and enabled Set matching Xfwm4 theme. The pixels disappeared and windows appeared normally.

This didn't happen when booting the ISO in real life.

Hi,
I was wrong - KDE crashed after login.
Cause wayland is default window manager.
I attach syslog from crash (rename *.txt to *.tar.xz - cause of file size).

Changing session to X11 works with this qsi:

Installation of nvidia driver resetted display options to default.
At live system I changed rotation and order of monitors. At installation I checked "take settings from live-system" and monitors where ok after reboot.
After nvidia driver installation I had to redo monitor setup

Plasma login screen seems not to be able to get rid of monitor setup, so I'll switch back to lightdm

This is a proven site, I have been using it for many years.
Checksum verification does only proof the offered ISO match the checksum, which you probably downloaded from the same site.
Always do a signature check, which is a fairly robust way to make sure the ISO was not adjusted by someone else.
Never trust something you have downloaded, b/c "it works" or it "always have worked" in the past, it does not guarantee you have downloaded something which was signed by the creator of the iso.

Is it possible to turn this vm into an ISO for installation at a later date?
Yes, the tool still available in MX-25, is called "MX Snapshot", which creates an ISO of the running system, and doesn't matter, the system is running in a VM.

FYI there is a transparent line in the window manager theme that virtualbox graphics driver doesn't quite render correctly unless graphics acceleration is enabled.

One of the nice things about using SourceForge's CDN service is that if you don't like a particular mirror, you can always switch to a different one.

I can figure out what some of the mirrors are, but can you actually choose a particular mirror (without resorting to a bunch of command line tricks)? It looked to me like it was randomly choosing a mirror for you, like it's trying to even out the load.
