Is MX XFCE same as Debian XFCE

#1 Post by advice1010 »

MX 23.6 XFCE

I was wondering, when Debian itself has an official new release, for example Debian Trixie.
Are the XFCE deb packages that MX uses, from the official Debian repo?

-Not referring to the Appearance of XFCE that MX customizes.
-Not referring to when XFCE itself has new release and MX offers this new XFCE version in its repo.

Thank You

Trixie comes with 4.20 and MX built 4.20 when Bookworm still was on 4.18.

I stand corrected. Trixie comes with 4.20.1 as the default XFCE desktop.

Re: Is MX XFCE same as Debian XFCE

#4 Post by timkb4cq »

In the past we have built the latest version of XFCE4 for our release if Debian's version was getting old. However in the case of the upcoming MX-25 we are using Debian's packages since this time most of their XFCE4 packages are what's currently upstream. There are a few that have had point release updates since the Trixie freeze but nothing substantial.
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB

Yes, we have also some newer components than Debian, such as whiskermenu 2.10.0 in MX 25 main and 21/23 test. I see Bookworm finally updated the panel weather plugin with the recent point release.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

i must add that the MX Team always does one hell of a job tweaking the xfce which makes MX 'MX'! a customized XFCE for MX.
If it is not broke then don't fix it; and if you can't fix it then don't break it!

Oh okay so it sounds similar to how things a generally handled, if the current versions from Debian repo are the same as MX repo then MX uses Debian repo, but the components that are already beyond the Debian versions, then of course MX repo are used.
Thank you guys for the responses
