Request to lift VPN restriction on mxlinux.org

#1 Post by rice4155 »

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, I'm aware that I'm using VPN and I'm aware that mx linux advice user to disable VPN if they want to access mxlinux.org, but I'm in a case where I set-up my VPN on my router, due to heavy censorship in my country (Indonesia) that force me to use VPN 24/7

This create a headache where some website put some restriction like mxlinux.org, the way my proxy configured, it's impossible for me to put a whitelist for certain domain, so I'm asking to lift and allow user with VPN to access mxlinux.org primarily forum.mxlinux.org, if that's possible that would be awesome

But I also understand if it's not possible, especially with current AUR service attack, there's some people that trying to mess with linux community atm

Also a bit off topic, would mxlinux repository work if I use VPN? For now I'm on Endeavour OS and planning to move to MX25 (when it's release), I'm a bit concern that I can't download some packages from the repository because I'm using VPN, thanks 🫡

i'm also in indonesia, and i'm unable to access forum in mobile because of 403 forbidden. maybe due to user agent? or chrome version is old (because i'm using chrome 119 in android 7.0)?

while in MX Linux (using firefox), can be accessed normally. (both doesn't use VPN)

Do you use an "network accelerator" on the phone? Google and I think some browsers have that that is actually working kind of like a VPN...

@rice4155 Welcome in.

Due to the bots hitting the network from Indonesia there is currently a hard block on that country. You should be able to get in using a VPN that connects from a different country though.

Which VPN are you using?
And where is your connection point?

and @TheBSODFan this sounds like your phone is using a different provider then the computer is. Please check your external IP's ( www.whatismyip.com) for both devices and see where they originate from.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.

The phone and laptop does use same wifi network, i guess, it's the user agent issue. because i'm trying other browser that supports android 7.0 (e.g firefox), it works

So far we have not had to blacklist any IPs on the package repository mirrors we run ourselves (*.mxrepo.com) and our 3rd party package mirrors are many and wide spread, including one in Indonesia as well mirrors in Singapore, Japan, & Australia for example. You shouldn't have a problem with repos.

Ah interesting.. what kind of phone is this?

I will check the rules, something may have tightened on user agent, but I did not see anything specifically block any.

When did this start happening?

It is showed under user agent string in the second picture. Meizu M6 Android 7.0 (Running "Via Browser" app)

i can reproduce the issue in the firefox by changing user agent.
